Speculations Suke Suke no Mi, inspired by Hokuto No Ken, is a special devil fruit

Suke Suke no Mi is underwhelming

Many people consider suke suke no mi to be one of the most useless devil fruits and its hard to disagree with them. We already saw its weakness when Absalom used it:
- The user's presence can be briefly revealed if they are covered by something, such as water, salt, or blood, giving their opponent a chance to notice them
- If the user gets too close to an opponent, they might get struck if the opponent gets in a lucky hit.
- The opponent may resort to other senses (such as hearing or smelling) in order to detect the invisible user.
On top, the idea of CoO wasnt introduced when Absalom used this fruit. Imagine Absalom fighting someone with basic CoO let alone FS.

Suke Suke No Mi's awakening: Nothingness

It doesnt make sense for an end game opponent to have a useless power. Shiryu believes he got a very nice power for himself =>

There is a theory floating around that Shiryu will awaken his devil fruit and it will turn him into nothingness. The idea originated from Koshiro flashback during Mr. 1 fight where the "ability to cut NOTHING" was mentioned three times (Please check the Stephen Paul's translation, ViZ translation was garbage).

Blackbeard and Suke Suke no mi

The theory of nothingness is cool, but I didnt pay much attention initially. Then some intriguing information came to my attention:

(1) In Ace Novel, Volume 2, Chapter 5, Thatch claims that Blackbeard wants to eat the Suke Suke no Mi. Out of all the fruits in the series, why did Thatch think Teach wants the Suke Suke no Mi?

I dont usually pay attention to novels as they are not written by Oda. For example, this volume was written by Tatsuya Hamazaki. But what makes this interesting is, a member of the Blackbeard pirates eventually gets the Suke Suke no mi. This Ace volume was released five months before chapter 925, where Shiryu shows his suke suke no mi powers. This cant be a coincidence. There is a possibility that Oda passed this information to Tatsuya.

(2) From databook Green (the only databook completely supervised by Oda), Blackbeard was originally named Everything D. Teach

(3) In chapter 577, Blackbeard says, Yami Yami no mi turns everything to nothingness

Connecting all these dots, is it possible Oda originally planned suke suke no mi for Blackbeard where the pirate Everything D. Teach was supposed to turn himself into nothingness? If that is true, then the suke suke no mi has to be a very special fruit that was reserved for the most important antagonist in the series.

Inspiration for "Nothingness": Hokuto No Ken

Hokuto No Ken or the Fist of the North Star is an 80s manga that inspired many famous mangakas. The protagonist Kenshiro is known for his iconic phrase "omae wa mou shindeiru" or "you are already dead". Oda recently paid homage to Hokuto No Ken through Queen =>

This is not the first time Oda referenced Hokuto No Ken. Back in chapter 72 SBS =>
D: To Oda-Sensei, I always(x2) have fun reading One Piece! By the way, in Volume 7 p. 18, third panel, the knife Sanji's holding appears to have some writing on it, but it's so small, I can't tell what it is. What's written on it? Please tell me!!

O: I'm not surprised you can't tell what it is. I drew it so you couldn't tell. However, you did well to find it. I'll fess up. It says "Hokuto no Ken" (Fist of the North Star). It was a really famous series in Jump from when I was in elementary school. Do you know it?
The ultimate technique of Kenshiro is called Musō Tensei. This technique allows the user to achieve a state of "nothingness", impervious to attacks. Kenshiro could harness the techniques of his fallen comrades. He can glide through air and space. It comes from the same principle as Ultra Instinct of Dragon Ball. Musō Tensei is so broken that the only way to counter it was to extremely distort the space and time.

Shiryu turning into nothingness will be another homage to Hokuto No Ken. Imagine Shiryu with abilities similar to Musō Tensei.

How broken Shiryu will be? :finally:

I dunno much about Fist of the North Star, it's on my list of manga to read sometime soon. Though the potential for Oda to plagiarize pay homage to Fist of the North Star by giving Shiryu a protagonists ultimate ability is dope as shit. The "nothingness" ability that gets passed around always sounded pretty intense in the first place and it sort of fits within the gimmicks the other conventional first mates have pertaining to avoiding being hurt (i.e. Marco being able to regenerate any damage, King being too durable to be damaged, Katakuri physically evading damage).

Call me a fake now but half the Zoro fans ditched King when Marco love tapped him. I'll be the only Shiryu fan out there defending M. Bison when Oda inevitably sidelines him for 20 chapters.

Stop making your expectations too High and then getting disappointed, Shiryu became an Invisible Man and his Awakening allows him to make others and his Surroundings Invisible too, as simple as that

He is already Admiral Level without his DF, and do you really think BB Pirates are consuming DFs that make them Stronger in 1 v 1, they are clearly eating DFs that allows them to trick or infiltrate or access any place

BBP imo will destroy Mary Geoise or at least infiltrate it to find its Treasure

I don't even believe Shiryu gonna fight Zoro, you really need to lower expectations, otherwise most Fans will get super disappointed

You know what? I havent also read Hokuto No Ken lmao. I was watching a death battle between Jotaro and Kenshiro when I first came to know about Muso Tensei. Then I read more and more about it.

I have also come to know that there is a power of nothingness in Street Fighter. Its known as sacred hado. Its not used by Bison though, its Ryu's power.

Didnt you ditch King for Greenbull? :whitepress: How could you have that signature where King was looking pathetic?

Well done putting these thoughts together, dunno how the hell did i skip Thatch's line from the Ace novel since it's a game changer.

Teach literally handed two mythical Zoans "rarer than Logia" to crewmates who are confirmed weaker than Shiryu lol. This alone shows Suke Suke no Mi is a red herring.

Nice Thread

I will add few things more.

Suke" is also an anagram of kesu (消す, kesu?), which means "to erase.

Till now all we have seen is User becoming invisible or making things he touched invisible.

But awakening means imparting attributes of your df to your surroundings.

His awakening would not only erase his own presence completely but he might be able to conceal the presence of objects without touching them that is not just swords but flying slashes as well

Zoro then has to deal with someone who can't be felt even with CoO + whose slashes can't be felt/seen as well.

He would be everywhere with invisible slashes raining from everywhere justifying his name Shiru of the rain - Shiryu means purple dragon and these dragons specialise in Ether - quintessential element while at the same time nowhere as his presence can't be detected - nothingness

Nice work, specially finding that BB wanted this df in Ace novel. Would follow the pattern of Zoro learning to breaking some ultra defense like steel in Alabasta and Lunarian in Wano. Sort of a special case where Zoro learns something to counter some really broken ability. So far people are focusing on the defensive aspect of possible awakening where Shiryu sort of becomes invincible but what about him learning to erase people (not happening in OP) but he could possibly have an offensive aspect where whatever he cuts is reduced to nothing, whole existence is erased from the universe.
