Actually this is canon material. This is something that happens in the manga too, it's was jus offpaneled:

Why did Oda decide to off panel this meeting and yet put this panel suggesting that Zoro has a weird aura only 2/3 chapters later?

This is really suspicious, isn't it?

My take is: Oda wants to keep the surprise effect for later when the arc is in its crucial stage and at the same time he wants to do some foreshadowing

Either it's a hint of his CoC or his new timeskip PU.

When it comes to determine who is the vice captain then Sanji fans try hard to find similarities between Sanji and Rayleigh and claim that the Dark King is a mix of Zoro and Sanji.
So we read words and words..."Ray is blonde like Sanji"
"Ray has a goatee like Sanji"...
"Ray likes women like Sanji"...
"Ray has hairy legs like Sanji"...Yes, they went this far, hairy legs lmao

But when it comes to evaluate his strength the first fanbase that try to downplay him is Sanji fanbase

It's like deep down in their hearts they know that the bond between Zoro and Ray is stronger, Zoro's parallels are stronger while Sanji-Ray parallels are kinda bland

So they downplay him when it comes to evaluate his overall strength, but if they want to claim that Sanji is the vice Captain then they look forward to find as much as similarities they can, no matter how bland they are

If they were fully convinced of the parallels they brought up they wouldn't downplay him
