Greetings followers of the grandmaster.

i was just dropping in to let you guys know that I attended a Japanese cultural/language exchange event last week and literally everyone at my table had Zoro as their favourite OP character (except me since I have to wank Mihawk lol). You only have to mention his name and all the Japanese there instantly perk up. That is some name recognition over there. Roronoa Zoro seems about as iconic to the Japanese as Superman or Batman to the Western fandom.

here’s hoping Wano will push his popularity even further.

Awesome.

I might have mentioned this earlier, but I work with a lot of Japanese people, and when I ask about OP and their fave character the answer is almost always Zoro.

I completely underestimated Zoro’s popularity in Japan. When I went, the Straw Hats were everywhere. On magnets, keychains, gachapon, you name it. But it was Luffy, Chopper, Zoro and Nami that stood out the most. One of the souvenir shops I went to sold OP character keychains. There was one design for most of the top 20 characters, but like 4 or 5 different designs for Zoro and Luffy keychains. At this point, I’m pretty sure that characters like Mihawk and Perona end up in the top 24 almost solely off the back of Zoro’s popularity.

Nice! What do they think about Mihawk btw? He seems quite popular with the female fans in particular due to his association with Zoro.

Most people don’t know this but Au is actually really popular for Japanese exchange students and tourism. Australia is closer than the US and UK and the exchange rate is better, so it’s not that hard to find a Japanese cultural exchange event in the major coastal cities. Japanese is offered as a subject in tons of high schools too so a lot of kids and the younger generation in general are getting into anime and manga.

In my uni at least, everyone in my course would know who Zoro is. Mostly casual fans but still, he’s got some brand recognition.

They like him quite a lot too. He is, a lot of fans peg him as one of the hottest guys in OP. I was very pleased when some of them said they believe Mihawk and Shanks are the strongest.

I actually work online, so the people I talk to are from Japan.

But yeah, even among anime fans in Serbia, OP is popular, and Zoro reigns supreme. :finally:

Tho, Naruto is probably the most popular anime here.

NGL most of the girls I’ve spoken to have Zoro, Law, Ace, Shanks and Mihawk in their favourites for their, uh, personalities ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) But mostly Zoro and Law. Every time I mentioned Zoro all the girls seemed to get more excited than the dudes :catpole:

Now, I’m no expert on what women like but at the Tokyo One Piece Tower I did see a few lining up for Zoro’s attraction...

Turns out Yasu was right all along. Zoro really is popular with women :yasu:

Same. I've heard Croco quite often too.
