He does this on purpose.It's hard to figure out the meaning under it. it is either making fun of it or being impressed it just shows an exaggerated reaction.

I know he can exaggerate his expressions, but he is genuine about them. If he didn't see it as a serious thing he would of just smirked and thought of him as just another rookie. There's a reason why both King and Queen are present in Zoro's location.
