However afterwards, kid and law lost to shanks/blackbeard. This was to showcase that the mid era is tougher than the old era, which is why it's tougher to become pirate king in the current era. Even though the new era overcome the old, there is still more challenge that awaits. Oda wanted to humble the new era because it's not quite the time for them to overthrow everyone just yet.
