There seems to be massive inconsistencies with who Mihawk is at his core.

On one hand, he's supposed to be constantly looking for his new greatest rival and is interested in strong opponents. But at the same time, he just wants to sit on his ass in peace and quiet.

And even if his primary motivation is living a peaceful life, I don't see how being a part of Cross Guild benefits him at all. They've put an even bigger target on their backs now that they pulled an Uno Reverse card on the WG, because now the WG will make it a priority to attack CG.

Mihawk really shouldn't have an issue with marines coming after him either tbh. Knowing that even Doffy got an admiral sent after him, there's no reason for the WG should be sending anything less than that to get Mihawk. Sending waves of fodder and VAs wouldn't make any sense. So in reality, the only marines getting sent after Mihawk should be admirals, and that should be a good thing for him because if even East Blue Zoro was enough to kill his boredom, an admiral is a fucking gold mine lmao. Especially when you consider that all 3 of them are sword users at this point in time :kobeha:
TBH he agrees to putting bounties on Marines so he should know fully well the conseqences of it being that provoking war to the entire Marines faction and risk having Admirals sent after him.
So, true, he wants a quiet life first and foremost, but he should have no problem having big shot coming after him.
It's like Whitebeard basically.....
Might be my coping tho

Yeah Mihawk's character is all over the place. It's like Oda doesn't know which personality Mihawk must have.
Just like kaido . His character is all over place

Kaido : I want to die
Oden exist and kaido change his mind instead let oden grant his grant wish .
‘Or kaido can eat another fruit or jump into volcano or call Akainu to kill him.
But kaido never does it

Then kaido claim to love chaos and violence and war .
‘He got stressed out about war when big mom and her pirates came to wano. Thankfully king save the day.

‘’Kaido hate celestial dragons , then act one which he literally want make women amd children to work as slaves to death for kaido goal.

Then oda will flip flop on other characters or keep, character simple as Akainu as mr. Angry guy to luffy all the time.

People thought greenbull is nice guy until he become full pro world government extremist .

Mihawk has always been a bit of a walking contradiction to me for this reason. It's not supposed to be a gag but he has some of the funniest moments in One Piece if you take a deeper dive, the Don Krieg scene and Vista scene in particular always make me laugh, just the way he says things but then goes about things don't align.

What it all comes down to then is he truly is bored, however he also does not want to be bothered either, like he'd rather not fight someone strong. I can be bored, and still not want to go to war. I think Zoro just wowed him back in Baratie, he genuinely wants to see how far Zoro goes as a fan of the kid.

Just accept the fact Mihawk isn't who you guys think he is

He's not meant to be this super powerful guy
He's a dude who flexes on weaklings and runs from true challenges.

Anyway, CG has potential if they actually do something great

It's basically trying to keep characters relevant but it still failed...Mihawk is a prime example...oda doesn't know what to do with him so added him...Same with Crocodile...I thought he already dropped his Utopia BS after Alabasta.. atleast that's what oda said...And power? tf you talking Mihawk...We all know Crocodile who had proper plans with Pluton is now irrelevant with this cross-guild plot and they will just be pieces that Oda will show at the EOS just like in Marineford for "Hype"....This is just a lazy place where oda can put all irrelevant characters so they can be used in a single panel EOS.
The only good thing about cross-guild is Buggy tbh.. Its just a waste for other characters....I can see even moria being added into it I mean thats what CG is....Don't see Doffy in this though..he is still a villain and unlike Crocodile who also did some "good" in Marineford.

tbh Oda should have made all his villains and old characters retire like Captain Kuro....

I personally think this will be the main line up
3 of these characters who were present at Roger's execution are already here. Only Doffy left to break free from Impel Down and Moria to escape from Beehive/Fullalead.
Mihawk already has the Perona -> Moria connection so that one is very likely imo.

Doflamingo knows shit, so he is in ID on standby plot wise. After Sabo reveals what ever it is, CG will probably break him out because one of them knows that he knows something that could be useful or some shit like that

Should've just joined hand with Shanks imo. Strawhats vs Red Hairs + Mihawk would fit to close the nostalgic circle of student-teacher and rubberboy - inspiration figure conference.

The interactions are gold, but the we need to see the impact of CG, are thye doing serious things or just on hold for final war?

the fact that is an obvious plot device to pull back fan favorite Crocodile and Mihawk into the main story is a little jarring.

but three of the best characters on one faction is already better than Big MOM pirates and beast pirates.

I loved the idea, but as time goes on the more unfitting it feels for Mihawk.

I was saying this to @Seth earlier, but I think Mihawk should've just become a freelance hitman after the Warlords got disbanded.

Accept contracts to take out whoever he's been requested to take out, traveling alone on his coffin boat again.

Oda's East Blue depiction of Mihawk as a character is a far cry from what he is now.

How can you even justify him traveling all the way to Baratie on a whim just to mess with Don Krieg if later on he's gonna keep insisting that all he wants is to stay out of the way.

The biggest personality trait that's been emphasized about Mihawk is that he's always bored and looking for something to excite him. How can he go from saying that he felt a thrill to think about being chased again, but then say he wants peace and quiet?
Also this, Mihawk fans, exist because of his introduction, that super badass poetic warrior, who is looking for a rival is ret-conned later on.

He wants a good fight, but he wants to be left alone, he wants excitement from being chased but also doesn't want to be bothered.

take all Mihawk most recent interactions, if he had that personality at Baratie he wouldn't have fans.

" I didn't want fodder annoying me, but I also will chase this fodder krieg even if I am bored. "

Great!!

Second best yonkou crew so far after Blackbeard Pirates

Buggy charisma, Croc scheming nature and Mihawk power is great combo...

And, it seems CG is the route through which oda will connect remaining former or present Warlords into story - including doffy.

they also seem to focus on navy more so it seems navy vs CG might really happen

One of the best things to happen to the manga in years. It’s continuing one of the best long-running jokes, Buggy, while very surprisingly also giving us real reason to care for the guy?

It’s expanding on Mihawk in a much needed way, as he’s a character who was a blank slate without many character relationships. Plus is integral for pushing towards the Zoro Mihawk fight, which from my perspective is really great as I had been struggling to see how it fit in. We’re now in the position where Luffy vsBlackbeard and Zoro vs Mihawk can happen at the same time and still make sense. Tbh, Zoro vs Shiryu now is just a bonus that doesn’t need to happen. And the Navy hunting background is very interesting

And it’s giving one of my top three villains, Croc, time back in the limelight.

What they are actually doing is a great twist, with the Marine hunting. Hopefully their next big move is an impel down breakout or a Weevil jail break

It’s like the Blackbeard pirates scene with Kuzan in the past few chapters. We haven’t had much of either CG or the post skip Blackbeards, and what we have had is better chemistry and character than Kaido and Big Mom’s crews served us in years. Course, they have the advantage of being established characters for the most part, but it’s still vastly superior

I think the only way to make sense of Migawk’s characterisation is for full embracing Shank’s wank.

Like, Mihawk and Buggy are basically the same. Where Buggy was certain that Shabks was the golden boy who would take on Roger’s legacy, Mihawk had Shanks as his one true rival and the only one who was worthy of him.

And both have been absolutely raging that Shanks didn’t live up to their expectations. Buggy basically gave up and Mihawk has sulked for ten years until he met his own Luffy figure in Zoro. Plus also meeting Luffy.
