If this double layered eyes stuff ends up being yet another reincarnation trope i will stop reading shonens lol.

There are enough shows using this already.

It’d be dope if zoro was or is capable of doing that already with his swords. It being the reason he a ryuma have 1 eye would be cool
I think the double ringed eyes indicate possession. Cavendish gets them when he is possessed by Hakuba. IMU Nerona could be possessed by whatever entity is calling himself Mu. Zunesha could be possessed by the person sentenced to walk the seas for their crime.

Big Mom could be possessed partly by the sport of Mother Carmel or whatever causes her to black out in Elbaf.

Mihawk could be possessed by Yoru.
Cavendish eyes turning layered when he gets possesed already answered that question imo, only a matter of time to see which spirits possesing them.

Zoro's closed eye is definitely layered which will have some link with the " king of hell" thing.

In the end, it will all be a different form of edo tensei lol.

Among other things, he can use them to project his own future sight onto someone else.

It's quite obvious from this panel. He projected his future sight to Luffy to warn him what will happen if he continues to f**k around.
I'm sure it is because it's stated in the vivre card that he's known as a clairvoyant. On top of that, he's nicknamed as Hawk eye.

Note all the emphasis they always put on his eyes.

clairvoyant

1. a person who claims to have a supernatural ability to perseive events in the future or beyond normal sensory contact.
hawk-eyed

having extremely keen sight vigilant, watchful

There is another good theory from @Kiri who believe Mihawk post-poned his clash with Vista because he could see Whitebeard was going to get stabbed.

One thing that puzzles me the most is that in the Reverie arc, he seems to be aware that the Warlords were going to be abolished before the actual declaration was made. He was staring from the windows as if he was looking through Mariejois. Maybe his clairvoyant ability is like Viola's devil fruit.

It reminds me of how Shanks was able to tell Greenbull was in Wano at great distance.

It seems that he can also lock his opponent on target with his eyes based on what we saw in the anime against Luffy.
"Manga Marineford Mihawk" is really superior to "Anime Marineford Mihawk".

And despite that he's already impressive in the anime.
