Shanks has never been confirmed to be a swordsman so the argument is daft

1. We don’t actually know how xebec is doing what he’s doing with his swordsmanship. We do know it looks different from divine departure but that isn’t the point
2. Nothing in the story even halfway implies mihawk having even comparable haki to shanks let alone better

Haki is used for everything

No same way big mom is a physical monster, has internal armament, conquerors infusion, and sword attacks doesn’t make her a good swordsman as we’ve seen. Her not even being considered a swordsman

theyre all swordsman
haki is essential for every swordsman
armament haki for better sword durability
observation for evasion and precog
and Conquerors haki for more AP

swordsmanship have varieties as well
even without df powers
some swordsmanship styles can produce fire like Kinemon
and others can produce twisters like Zoro

and swordsman can also combine their DF ability with their swordsmanship
like Law with Ope Ope DF
fuji with Gravity
shiryu with invisibility

Oda has called Shanks a swordsman in multiple official One Piece sources.

I know haki is used for everything but when used with swordsmanship it's part of swordsmanship. It's like footwork. A lot of fighting styles use footwork. When used with boxing it becomes part of boxing skills.

Swordsmanship refers to the skills and techniques used in combat and training with any type of sword.

I'm still on the fence whether BM is a swordsman or not. A swordsman is anyone who fighting style centers around swordsmanship or they are at their strongest when using a sword.

Yes.. But if a Sword Skill doesn't make a Swordsman, what does?.. A Sword Style fits perfectly and is the only option available to determine what truly delimit what a Swordsman is..

And yes that means Xebec’s “shockwaves” and Shanks’ Kamusari and Brook’s Music, freezing, and fencing abilities are all sword skills. Yes Brook directly says his music attacks are his “Swordmanship”. This also means Kin’emon and Zoro’s fire abilities are also sword skills. As in producing fire from thin air is a sword skill.

And of course Zoro’s Ashura which makes no sense and has never been explained anywhere in the manga and no other character including top tiers has anything even slightly similar to it. This is also a sword skill
