General & Others Which arc felt more dangerous? Whole Cake Island or Wano?

There was almost never a time to rest in WCI, even after Luffy beat Cracker with Nami's help, he got stomped by the enraged army. The assassination plan was formulated in a single night with a whole bunch of ragtag leaders. Meanwhile, after Luffy got one-shot by Kaido, he took a summer break in Udon doing training with a useless warden like Queen. They even had a few days before the raid to train.

The plot twist with evil Pudding really struck a chord to the sense of safety that SHs initially had with allies. Bege, a SN who worked for BM and hurt the SHs in the past, had double agendas in place and was not hesitant to drop their asses off to save his own crew's, unlike the raid alliance. Luffy had the luxury of having the most plot-convenient ally, Yamato, to stall Kaido for him so that he could heal and get back on the island for Round 32893421.

Whole cake island was a rescue arc, tension is supposed to be high because the only thing the main cast can do is run

Wano is a war arc, the final boss isn't supposed to be unstoppable he's an enemy that can be defeated, unlike in wci

I realized we never saw Kaido’s flagship, or a Beasts Pirates fleet outside of the Zou Arc. :seriously:

The Beasts Pirates should have been main antagonists in the Dressrosa Arc. Jack or Queen could’ve showed up to help Doflamingo. They could’ve even personally fought Fujitora, and brought Samurai or lesser Beasts Pirates to fight his forces and retrieve Doffy.

Wasted potential to the max.

Also IMO the Whitebeard and Beasts Pirates should have had more commanders. Big Mom has more than 30 of them, it’s insane.
:kriwhat:

I was more hyped for WCI as I wanted to learn more about Sanji, and less hyped for Wano because I don't like Oden and never understand the in-verse Oden wank.

In the end, both were somewhat underwhelming on a weekly read, so it's probably better to re-read them both to have a more grounded conclusion, but even now I can already say I liked WCI more (and not because I'm a Sanji fan because baking a cake was meh to me).

None of the arcs feels dangerous, because of SH's insane plot armour and I don't expect much danger in shounen overall. But WCI felt more interesting to me, and Wano was more like "yay Oden" "faceless horde of Beasts characters" "of course even 1k allies would win against 100k Kaido's goons". Aside Big Meme, WCI had more interesting characters, fun food theme, and I actually wish to see them again, e.g., I'd like to see Amanda with her gorgeous hat and sword going against Brook, and maybe Smoothie will finally show why she's a Commander. The Bege castle escape felt genuinely thrilling, there was some tension with Oven's scene, and let's not forget the MVP Brook. I have mixed feelings towards Germa 66, but again, it was interesting to see them fight against BM crew in the end, and even losing 2 of their team members as we got to know in the cover story. In Wano I enjoyed the roof 5 vs 2 fight, I got a new addition to my favourite characters with Yamato, we finally got Jinbe's first fight as SH, and I also liked Roger's flashbacks. Yet overall the war felt unnecessarily long, too many characters were a waste of panel space, and I never really felt any danger or at least uncertainty or thrill. Momo is to be executed? Yeah, sure, get a rescue in 3, 2, 1... here it is. Kaido unbeatable? Pffft, wait till Luffy gets serious. Seriously, Luffy vs Katakuri was a lot more fun to watch compared to Luffy vs Kaido.

Anyways, I hope the next arc will be finally all about SH crew again, an not a gazillion bland characters I could care less about. I am thrilled for a BB arc, because I hope that finally we'll get decent 1 vs 1's and all the fights will be about SH!

I also disliked how they handled deaths among scabbards - Kinemon had several death scares only to easily survive them all, and Izo who actually dies, dies off-panel, with no emotional moment whatsoever...
