Blackbeard and Luffy do not have a rival relationship. Just because Blackbeard will be Luffy’s strongest enemy, does not mean that they are rivals. That’s not how it works. Anyway, in Shonen the rival will many times fight alongside the MC. This will never happen with Luffy and Blackbeard because they are arch nemesis’s. You don’t hear people go around saying Xebec was Rogers rival. You hear that Whitebeard and Shiki were. But Xebec was most likely stronger than those two. You hear that Xebec was Rogers greatest foe.

This is how it will be with Luffy and Blackbeard. Blackbeard will be known as Luffys greatest enemy (Xebec), while Kidd will be known as Luffys rival (Shiki/Whitebeard).

When it comes to Blackbeard’s “rival” at this point it honestly would be Shanks:

- Both were apprentices on rival crews
- One is a haki master, other is a DF monster
- Shanks carries on his Captains will by passing on the Strawhat. Blackbeard killed his Captain.
- There is an obvious clash being set up between the two.

- Also. Blackbeard, a black haired D. vs Shanks a red hair, one armed conquerer who isn’t a D. Sound familiar? That’s because It’s the same shit with Luffy and Kidd.

Kidd’s the rival, Blackbeard is the arch nemesis. End of story.

I'd say Kidd and Smoker, but at this point its hard to believe that Smoker will catch up. Hopefully he will.

Nobody, there are no parallels to be made between Luffy's rivals and Roger's ones.
I mean as far as we know Rayleigh didn't have any known rival, Zoro has Mihawk.
Garp became a legend when he was still very young and was a top tier, there is none of that among the Marines rn.

Same can be said with Whitebeard, Luffy's growth surpass the other SN, we saw a CoC imbued attack clash between Roger and Whitebeard, who among the SN is going to that with Luffy? Nobody.
He will fight admirals and BB who are not from his generation.

So we shoud stop trying to look for parallels, Luffy is writing his own story with his own crew and is fighting his own enemies making his own allies. Different times. Simple as that.
