Questions & Mysteries Why did Kaido place Shanks alongside the 4 people who’ve defeated him?

Cope, his inner monologue doesnt contradict his statement. I dont understand how you can read ''These people can fight me'' and translate it into'' These people defeated me'' in your warped mind.
Because he recognizes Shanks as someone that cange give him the fight of his life. I thought it was obvious?

You know Oda didn't intentionally design Shanks as his self insert, right? That came about during an interview when he was asked who he thinks he's mostly relatable to in the manga. Doubt he ever even thought about it, until he was put on the spot, as his reasoning was "he's laid back."
In all honesty, 9 times out of 10 an authors actual self insert is always the protagonist. You can actually see this with Oda and Luffy, as Luffy was given a power that allows him to do all the shit Oda thought was awesome growing up. Dude was literally obsessed with Western cartoons as a kid.

So Kaido respects Shanks’s power but doesn’t respect Garp’s, Sengoku’s, Ray’s, BM’s, and Shiki’s for some reason? Even though he should have more combat experience with those people instead of Shanks?

Assuming that my speculation about Shanks and Kaido having a CoC measuring contest is true, don’t you think it would be in character for Kaido to consider Shanks showing that his CoC is a level above his to be a defeat? This would still make it possible for Kaido to be stronger overall due to his other attributes, like his natural strength and DF

The list he made is a list of those that he personally fought or has seen in their primes, I dont think he ever fought Rayleigh so why would he be there?

Oden was clearly about to finish Kaido off. Even if you really do believe that, even without the hag’s interference, that Kaido could’ve somehow gotten up fast enough to stop Oden from cutting his throat open and eventually defeat Oden, obviously Kaido himself would consider what happened to be an L since his opponent landed a devastating blow on him and someone else stepped in to secure the victory for Kaido.
Why would Oda need to go out of his way to state that Roger, WB, and Xebec defeated Kaido? Oda’s not a powerscaling junkie. He had no narrative reason to go out of his way to shoehorn in some dialogue about how those 3 defeated him. We can very easily infer that they did beat him based on everything we know. Kaido loves to fight and never in a million years would be the subordinate of someone weaker than him. So obviously he challenged Xebec. Rocks members were always at each other’s throats, and Kaido would want to know his place in the hierarchy, so he would definitely challenge WB to a fight. The fact that he was itching to fight WB at MF suggests that he wanted one final chance to actually beat WB in a fight. Roger was the top dog of the pirate world after Xebec fell, and Kaido was itching to fight Roger at GV. It would be very odd if he never tried to challenge Roger throughout his pirating career.
