Simply because they were a mafia forum which isolated majority of the fanbase. Mafia is a very small niche among the fandom, and only seemed so active on NF and OJ because the member numbers in general were huge. NF and OJ had like 15k and 10k members at the time.

If you liked mafia, there was no reason to leave an active and familiar mafia group on NF. If you wanted OP discussions, there was no incentive to join TB where memes and power level debates were banned. Whatever drama happening behind the scenes mattered little imo; the target audience of TB itself doomed it to low traction.

I never made it back for OJs purge, I was gone for like 2 years and the site no longer existed. Only reason I'm here is I had contact with @Nidai_Kitetsu and @Bogard in Narutoforums, messaged them there.

S.o to Bogard for creating this place, a lot of jobless people because of him still. I doubt I would still be discussing One Piece on a forum if this place didn't exist.

lol yeah I dont really care about discussing One Piece anymore. In fact, I dont carefully read chapters these days. Only reason I login to this forum because of familiar Ids like you, Bogard, Gol D etc. Its just a place where I could drop some unserious cartoon takes and take a break from rl.

It died because its staff wanted a safe space for them to circlejerk, meanwhile Bogard created Worstgen to embrace the chaos/wank/memes/madness and became what OJ/TB never could, a forum driven by its people and not protected egos.

One thing I miss from OJ is the site always felt more balanced between OPlers and its downplayers.

Let's say "One Piece sucks" here and people would agree with you except few minority.
Say "One Piece sucks" in OJ and you got Luffy 56 Defense Club and Oda's Apostles defending it, and then Andrewww quoting you about how One Piece manga sales stomps any other mangas.

Then good old "The Great Debate: Will Big Mom fall in WCI?" back then One Piece felt still more worth discussing, until second half of WCI happened.
