Because being pretty good at swords and tactical with a kick to the nuts will get you out of situations differently than being just great at swords will. Mihawk doesn't hold victory over Shanks... I can imagine in a prolonged fight Mihawk wins a duel but Shanks is accustomed to bringing other stuff to the table.

The reason why I am asking is because anything other than sword is inferior so why force Shanks into a style that makes him weaker...

"Other than sword" is not inferior. Tbh, DF tend to be better than swords because of the variety of abilities. That's why Mihawk hasn't smoked Katakuri, or Big Mom, or Kaido. Why he doesn't have a W over Shanks I don't know, but he doesn't. And yet he should be better with swords than Shanks given his title so something doesn't add up yet

What? Where did you get any of that from. There are different types of devil fruit. Some devil fruit are better than others. Some devil fruit has better variety of abilities than swordsmanship and some doesn't. Mihawk hasn't smoked them because he hasn't fought them. He has a W over Shanks he's the world's greatest swordsman and Shanks isn't.

From my understanding of OP combat, nothing is better than a sword, not a single DF, not even the broken ones and DF is pointless since Shanks has none...
Have Katakuri, Big Mom or Kaido smoked Mihawk? No, so I dont see a point in that one either. The reason why he doesnt have a win over Shanks is because it eould ruin Shanks' hype who is an important figure for the MC. Oda is not ruining anyone's hype and certainly not Shanks'. We know Mihawk is stronger, giving Shanks a clear L achivess nothing except lowering his hype which Oda certainly isnt after, at least not at this point.
Even the guy who is hyped up through Ls is not given one in his prime or anytime recently or by anyone known.
Back to the reason why I quoted you - anything that Shanks can do without a sword is not better than what he can do with a sword.
