I'm not saying that Zoro was already equal to Oden, but he managed to impress 2 of Oden's samurai, who are well used to know the power of a so called Top Tier.

The old man Chinjao fought against pre G4 Luffy and is wondering himself that a man with such power is only an underling, because here Zoro showed to be stronger than pre g4 Luffy and hence the Chinjao's wondering, otherwise he wouldn't have questioned himself.
He couldn't believe that an underling could be stronger than the boss.
That was when nobody knew about G4 though, he didn't know about Luffy's powerup at that moment so he was believing that Zoro was stronger than Luffy.
Side Note: If Luffy has G4 then Zoro has Ashura, although I believe Luffy G4 was stronger than Ashura Zoro in Dressrosa...but still, they were close.
For me:
Luffy G4 > Zoro Ashura > Zoro > Luffy G2/3 > Luffy

In the earliest chapters, he laughed after smashed with a bottle. An absolutely intriguing scene.
He is the first to show that a guy that seems to be a weakling, has the guts to scare a wild beast. Another twist in his character.
He offers peace and sake to the most powerful man, but refused to be over-pressured by that. A sign of laid-back strength, but also respectful to the strongest man. "Apparently he is a big shot?"
When he's cranky, he was scary. But if the enemy wasnt hostile, he get drunk and offered Mihawk himself to join their party, an ice-breaker.
And the best scene about him imo, his walk at Moby Dick while displaying the first major visible effect of King's Haki in the manga. That walk is so amazing.

Think about how much we’ve learned about Big Mom and Kaido in the past 3-4 years, and how Shanks’ presence in the New World seems to be nonexistent. He’s the only Yonko who it seems like you could remove him from the story and almost nothing would change-the textbook definition of a boring character.
Shanks is the OP version of Gildarts, aka generic and boring. Like I said, unless he turns out to be evil or morally grey, in which case he just turns out to be a discount version of Hawks from MHA. So there’s really no way for Shanks to wind up being a memorable character in the long-run unfortunately.
Lol Luffy wouldn't be "strawhat" Luffy if it wasn't for Shanks. Kaido would have attacked WB and marines would get a free execution on ace which means no summit war. No summit war means BB doesn't rise to be a yonko and endgame villain. Shanks is very integral to the story. Big mom and Kaido purpose is just to be the guardians of the road poneglyphs
