Powers & Abilities Why was Zoro so weak in the East Blue?

#1
With the information we know about Zoro's childhood connection with the Wano Samurai's in his village, why was he not Stronger in the East Blue?
Zoro apparently learned about "Ryuo" from his master as a child, but it took him until his fight with Mr.1 to unlock it. Why not sooner?
Apparently he knew Shimotsuki Kozaburo a powerful Samurai and swordsmith, but never learned any of Wano techniques?
Having power mentors greatly raises someone's strength, look at Coby after just a few months with Garp, or the growth Luffy got while training with Rayleigh.
Zoro should have been much stronger during the East Blue and Paradise.

It would be interesting to know why he focused on "strength Training", instead of Swordsmanship? Is it because he focused on it to try and over power Kuina, rather than try and beat her with Swordsmanship?
Because he believed strength and cutting was the only answer to getting more powerful and didnt realize until his Mihawk fight how weak he truly was compared to the world

Mihawk called Zoro a frog in a well during their fight. The entire point of that was to tell/show Zoro that he needed to experience the world in order to truly become strong.

That’s why Zoro developed after facing Mr. 1. And learned how to use flying slashes after his experiences on Skypeia, he needed to travel and experience things to get stronger. His master told him the technique for cutting steel, but Zoro couldn’t grasp it because he was too young. When he faced Mr. 1, he was given the proper situation to develop it.

Comedy thread

How come tanking not one, but two attacks from Top Tier = so weak?
Meanwhile his Captain, dozen of arcs later, 2 years later story wise, still got instantly KOed by not two, but only one attack by another Top Tier!!

When did he ever "tank" a top tier Attack? The slash from Mihawk left him injured for literally over a week.
But I guess the question should be "Why was he not a better Swordsman?".

Was he? He was just as strong as Luffy and without Asura at the beginning lol.

Then Luffy became stronger with the first gears and Zoro still catched up with Asura.

He might have been stronger than Luffy at the beginning, but it made sense 1) he was more experienced having spent over a year at that point bounty hunter and fighting. And 2) Training constantly.
But shouldn't he have been stronger or at least more knowledgeable about swordsmanship? He apparently got trained by masters who have a direct connection to Wano. Learned about Haki as a child, had a powerful sword made by a master. We know training with mentors give greater growth than training by yourself. So why did it take him so long to learn all these things.

What's your definition of Stronger?

Zoro beat Mr 7 off screen before the series even began remember. As in a Grand line bounty hunter from Baroque works was killed by Zoro before the series began. Then Zoro proceeded to clear out all of Whiskey peak.

What's your definition of Stronger in this situation? Was Zoro supposed to be like a mid tier before the series began?

Zoro unlocked haki before everyone else. Isnt that good enough?

Like exactly how strong do you expect Zoro should be?

same reason luffy had garp arounf for a signifcant amount of time
yet didnt learn haki till the timeskip.
it just tells a better narrative for us to watch them grow than for them to be at a high level at the start of the story.

Well Wano people aren't all strong.

I'm sure even the likes of pre Kaku would classify as abnormal compared to the fodder samurai.
