Apparently you need to consider yourself a "pure swordsman" and dedicate your life to the way of the sword to be competing for the WSS title even if you use a sword all the time according to the crying six
Then how WSC's title even legit? What if human characters don't consider themsleves to be creatures?
Nami's immediate reaction when she heard about WSC was that Kaido must no be human :

No, because none of the characters we care about care about the title
Zoro (a main character) wants to become the WSS so it’s held to a higher standard than any title bar PK
Any character wielding a sword is a contender but that’s never emphasized. We hear about various characters gunning for the One Piece (giving it the necessary hype) but the WSS doesn’t receive the same treatment
There’s no tension around the fight or Zoro’s challenge. It isn’t “who among the new generation of swordsmen will surpass Mihawk and sit upon the throne”, it’s “when will Zoro finally be strong enough to challenge his teacher”
It just isn’t as interesting
For the race to become the PK we have the Strawhats, Cross Guild, Shanks’ crew, and Blackbeard’s crew all getting ready to duke it out to see who’ll become the next Pirate King
There’s no “race” or ongoing conflict for the WSS title. Eventually Oda will decide Zoro’s ready for Mihawk and that will be that
That is what’s lame to me

It's strongly correlated to one another that you want it or not..
Like Armament and Physical Strenght..
You want to be the most famous in a field that others can steal that fame from you..

Wanting to be PK doesn't mean you want to be the strongest. Buggy already explain Cross Guild doesn't need to beat the the yonkos for him to be PK. He just need to beat them to the final island.
Roger didn't beat anyone to be PK. He would have never became Pirate King if it wasn't for Oden. He had to beg WB for Oden.

If there were chsracters that wanted the title, it would have given more ammunition to the morons of his world, they would disregard anyone else that doesn't aim for the title.
With how it is right now, anyone claiming ''pure swordsman'' ''half-swordsman'' ''37% swordsman'' is clearly agenda driven and cannot be taken serisously.

These titles are just descriptors meant to hype characters, spread through hearsay. They are not certified nor should anyone actually even strive for them, because not only do they gain nothing but also it comes down to the public to appoint/accept. Kaidou got defeated, doesn't mean his opponent claims the WSC "title"

To be WSM, you need to have a powerful df and great piracy, of course powerful near WB level
