Oda also heavily teased Zoro's bloodline in SBS 96.
However large a part it plays in the end, I'm fairly confident we aren't leaving without learning of Zoro's background.

We have a chapter title two peas in a pod (Zoro&Ryuma chapter) like of course Oda will explore more Zoro lineage.
yeah something is boiling and Oda doesnt want to bring this new info. So far did a good job with the shimotzuki and also the lore behind the blade. The question at the end imply more is coming, like they really do look alike uhhh?

Well, he is confirmed not to be a descendant of two likeliest Shimos to be his ancestor(s).
That leaves two possibilities:
- A branch family of the Shimos
- A retainer's family
Oda never, to the best of my knowledge, spoke against Zoro's dojo crushing background prior to meeting Kuina in the Shimotsuki village. So we can assume this is at least consistent with whatever Oda plans to do with Zoro's lineage.
But this begs a question: if Zoro meeting Kuina is his first visit to the Shimotsuki village, where is he from?
The key may well be in Oda's SBS answer: Oda specifically stated that Kozaburo did not set out to the seas alone, but brought Wano samurais with him. I think it is more possible that the samurais, his retainers or otherwise, and Kozaburo parted ways as they explored East Blue after they saved the villagers from mountain bandits (prior to the found of the village). It is one of these samurais who ended up becoming Zoro's granddad.

I think whatever Oda does with Zoro, he'll ensure he is a direct descendant of Ryuma. There are too many connections between the three, Ryuma, Ushimaru, and Zoro to just be coincidences. Zoro's date of birth, hometown, appearance, connections to Ryuma, they all trace back to the Shimotsuki.
Oda's intentionally being vague about it. This will sound like a bit of a reach, but Oda only really ruled out Ushimaru as Zoro's father, and nothing more. And he's been hush about Ryuma, whom I am sure he's received many more messages from readers about being Zoro's ancestor.

Ryuma being an ancestor of Zoro's is still possible, of course.
Heck, with how old his legend and bloodline are, Ryuma is practically the ancenstor of current Wano.
