The powerlevel discussions pretty much started because:

- Mihawk tried slashing WB and Joz blocked it (que Trolls)

- Mihawk and Vista clashing

- Marco hit Kizaru a few times and blocked those attacks

- Joz made Aokiji bleed

- Whitebeard curb stomped Akainu after killing Ace, whom he defeated easily.

- Ace by virtue of his power could hold off Aokiji but not Akainu, fanbase argued about that repeatedly.

- Luffy being fundamentally powerless for 30 chapters and received help (was a good thing)

It just Jumpstarted a bunch of ridiculous discussions about powerlevels all because Oda wanted to tease upper tier characters and their strength, to gear us for the New World plotlines.

One Piece really isn't a complex story.

The genius of Oda is, that he knows how to present his themes in a simple and graphic way so that even casual fans, who don't have much experience or skill in interpreting art/literature, are able to identify and interpret them.
OP as a story is an N/A as far as complexity goes because it's not complete. But yes it's aimed at like a 10-14 year old crowd if that's what you mean.

What I meant was in regards to Midnight saying the fights suck. From a technical standpoint Oda is a high level graphic storyteller even if the story is pretty obvious... like he's not going to lose to Kaido as a final outcome, for example.
