General & Others One Piece's "decline" in sales

I wonder why top mangakas like Oda and the ones of HxH, Berserker(rest in peace) etc are not challenging the editors and magazines and giving themselves the time they think is appropriate to work with quality(means health).
Oda is already rich, he himself says that in some SBS's. OP until today is one of main drivers of Shounen Jump. He can do whatever he wants they will never drop him/OP. Just like HxH can drop for 2y+ and people still expect new chapters.
Oda is the Richest Mangaka in all time lmao. Net Worth: 250 Millions $

I mean it doesn't surprise me that during the GOAT Saga(Sabaody, Impel Down, Marineford) the sales exploded. Sabaody is a top 3 arc in my book simply because in just 24 chapters so much stuff happens. Supernova introduction, Celestial Dragons and slavery themes, Rayleigh introduction, Luffy punching Carlos, Kizaru and more importantly STRAWHATS GETTING DEFEATED.

Hancock was an instant hit, Luffy teaming up with Buggy, Crocodile, Ivankov etc.. was legendary.

And then there is Marineford, for which I don't have to say a word.

Also the people using this to shit on Wano, remember that Ennies Lobby had similar numbers, does that mean Ennies Lobby sucked? Just enjoy the manga, it is still doing well.

Never thought about Sabaody like this. You just made me realize that I underestimate Sabaody Arc for being short and a "defeat" arc.

But is completely fine using this to shit on Wano. Is completely different from Ennies Lobby OP wasn't big back then. Ennies Lobby is the reason(at anime) why One Piece became what it is today. And Never forget that Fishmen Island was the biggest sales(per volume) of OP(underrated arc while still not being one of the top). Sales decline after that is perfectly fine. Thing is Wano set up was suppose to be another peak of OP sales(Final War too) and is proven to be exactly the opposite.

I don't think it so much a decline due to lack of popularity, its just there are a lot of good titles our right now giving good competition. One piece was at the top for so long because there wasn't that much out that could rival it's popularity, but lately some really good Manga is out there kicking butt.
Demon Slayer, Jujutsu Kaisen, AoT, Tokyo Revenger's etc...

Dude... KnY and JJK are selling 20mi+. One Piece never sold anything close to the 80mi of KnY. One Piece for a long period were selling below 10mi. What is your excuse when we have 2 works at the same time selling 20mi+ and it seems other works will also break the 10mi barrier while OP is maintaining it's 8mi per year(at the best scenario)?

What? Aren't you fanboys always saying that Wano Arc is a masterpiece of animation? KnY and JJK are not the best animation in history. Back at Enies Lobby OP animation (art quality) was nowhere near to KnY, JJK or current OP and still made the manga sales near 40mi.

KOL explained it well

people tend to buy and try new thing with restricted budget.. so they afford whats new usually.. and this year has been a banger for new titles like Tokyo Manji Revengers and so on

Yeah Wano has been good but its still chapter by chapter adaptation. The current one piece anime is 900+ episodes it contains alot of fluff and is large investment for someone to get into the series.

Yeah KnY and JJk and not the best animation in history but you can clearly see how those two series manga sales sky-rocketed after their anime adaptions. Look at tokyo-revengers and how it's shot up in sales from its anime adaption

Pure bullshit since OP was at top for so long and not with impressive numbers but above 10mi mark. Sorry, any attempt to defend OP is doomed to fail.

So what? OP only sky rocket when anime reach Enies Lobby and manga was already at Marineford. 500 chapters. And people had no trouble in buying all those volumes.

Thing is OP failed to maintain fans. Best sale per volume was 3,3 mi Fishmen Island. While nowadays are selling below 2mi after more than a year passed(that time it sold like 2mi+ at first week).
While KnY first 22 volumes were all at top sales of 2020. Which means not even newest OP volume was beating KnY oldest volume.

OP lost fans. It is illogica to say otherwise.

You've entirely missed my point

I've realized that Oda writes his manga to make it as long as physically possible. Post marineford, One piece was already 500+ chapters long. Its half way mark was longer than the existence of most other series. Oda had created a full fledged world with countless characters to use in his story.

Rather than simply jumping into the parts of the story everyone wanted to see, I feel like Oda just dragged on unnecessary plot points which forced this manga to be as long as it is. Why did Dressrosa and Whole cake island need to take 2 years each to publish? Why can't we simply skip past some stuff?

A trend you will see with the new gen of shonen manga is that none of them ever dwell on one arc for two long. You have a small cast of characters which are focused heavily in depth. Arcs fly by fast so we get to see each of our favorite characters in action and progressing.

One piece is the exact opposite, Oda undertakes the task of creating these giant arcs filled with new unimportant characters, each with giant backstories...for literally no reason.

You are completelly right. And Oda is very contradictory to himself since he says he doesn't wants OP to last that long anymore.

First 600 chapters of OP seems to have so much more story than others 416 chapters. I have to say 600 because that was when timeskip hapenned. So post timeskip still have 184 chapters to catch up pre timeskip in story relevancy.

nothing to do with the story at all honestly.. ots an old title and new things are hyped alot and gradually decline ..

various arguments can be made but only an ignoramus would call it a sign of story defect
