I think the answer is yes. Surpassing Oden by blackening Enma would be much less meaningful and impactful if it happens after Wano.

There wouldn't be anyone to properly appreciate the magnitude of the accomplishment.

Gyukimaru and Hitetsu are citizens of Wano. Gyukimaru told us that Ryuma forged Shusui into a Black Blade through his history of battle:

Hitetsu told us that depending on Zoro, Enma's rank may get be raised:

If anyone should witness Zoro forging a Black Blade, it is them.

Kaido is the one who declared that there shall never again be a monster samurai of the likes of Kozuki Oden:

If anyone should recognise the birth of such a samurai, it is him.

Perhaps the Scabbards too should witness Zoro performing the deed.

The connection between Zoro and Oden was further highlighted during his battle with King. Zoro speculated that Oden was able to wield Enma as if it were "as light as a feather":

Blackening Enma and/or surpassing Oden after Wano is just bankrupt of meaning.
If ZKK happens,maybe.

Idk I think him turning Enma black that fast would be shitty

He got Enma and managed to turn it black in what? 2 weeks? 3?

Ryuma and Mihawk spent their lives with their blades honing their skills and defeating strong opponents but Zoro gets a new sword and is able to accomplish the same feat in under a month?
Oden has already put in majority of the work to getting it to that status.
Zoro is simply finishing the job.

Since the COC power-up happened before the blackening of his blade and given how big a feat it is for a swordsman, forging a Black Blade is gonna be a bigger deal for Zoro than his COC power. Two major power-ups of that level in the same arc would make him way too OP. So I don't think it'll happen in Wano.

P.S. Enma is no longer Oden's blade.

How is it bad writing If the fundamental concept of blackening a blade makes Enma a better candidate to be blackened first?
Because it’s barely his feat at that point. Blackening a blade he just got instead of a blade he’s had with him since the beginning that he’s fought and struggled with is a stain on Zoro’s status as a swordsman

So y’all would be satisfied with Zoro turning Enma black when Oden did most of the legwork? Different strokes for different folks I guess

I think the answer is yes
I think no because Zoro doesnt know how to do it… people keep talking about black blades, gyukimaru, hitetsu and even Mihawk but none of them have ever said “This is how black blades are forged”

This feat is so rare that i do not believe that anyone can do it WITHOUT actually knowing how to do it… Its like ryuo… even Veterans masters of haki like Katakuri DO NOT have Ryuo simply because they HAVE TO BE taught it or else they will never just randomly do it from nowhere

Zoro will not make a black blade until we the readers know exactly how black blades are forged

Oden had complete control over Enma, and was able to freely coat his Sword in CoC, while fighting against Kaido for hours.

Zoro almost died by coating his sword in CoC for like half a minute, while fighting against a Yonko Commander for only a few minutes.

Blackening his blade would in no way shape or form mean he has surpassed Oden.

But I am a firm believer that Blackening ones blade can only be obtained by achieving the highest tier of Hardening. So I don't see Zoro doing that this arc regardless.

Oden used it once. That's it. Hours my ass.

Yes it would. Oden couldn't do it.
Tengu said it depends on ZORO

Him and Kaido were fighting for hours. Just cause it was all off screened, doesn't take away from the fact that they fought for a very long time.

Oden couldn't blacken his blade. But he could fight against Kaido for hours, which is something Zoro can't do. And nothing indicates that by blackening his blade, he would be able to fight against Kaido for hours. So no. Blackening his blade doesn't mean he's surpassed Oden in overall strength, Lmao. Just means he managed to do ONE thing, Oden couldn't.

No he didnt.
He fought through an army and hit kaido once. Used acoc once.
Unless oden is that shit in HOURS as your negative iq ass is saying he didn't hit DRAGON kaido once
As when kaido actually got hit his men commented
HES BEEN HIT

Oden wasn't releasing all his haki especially coc like zoro is at all either.
In fact every panel we see of that fight his sword isn't coated once bar the togen totska so he wasn't even putting his ryou in enma like zoro is.

Yes it does. Oden couldn't do it in 20 years.

Quite being a moron. Like Kaido just sat there and let Oden and the 9 Scabbards decimate his crew for hours, and did nothing.... :seriously:

I didn't say Oden was coating his swords for hours. I said "He could freely coat his Sword in CoC, while fighting Kaido for hours."

Two different points. He can freely coat his sword in CoC, and fight against Kaido for hours.

Zoro can't do either of those. So I don't give a damn if he can blacken his blade. Until he can freely coat his Swords in CoC, and fight against an actual Top Tier for more than 10 seconds, then he hasn't surpassed Oden in strength.

Cry cause as usual you're making dumb points

Oden fought dragon kaido for an hour could freely coat coc apparently but only managed to hit kaido once in an hour.
Cool story bro.

Wrong again

Zoro was feeding enma constant ryou. Not coc. If you actually read the last part of the fight after the first hit that takes King's mask off zoro was actively coating and not coating his coc.

He could do that with a broken body anyway.
Now he folding
