CoC Haki or Ryou has always been a thing. Especially with the way it was first shown/described as invisible armor. I think that was originally the purpose of CoA before Oda decided to create a variation of it with black skin to create levels of Haki. Reading back when Haki was used pre-timeskip, the same/similarly drawn effect is used.
