The only time Luffy has ever discussed the idea of a vice captain was when he agreed on Usopp taking charge of the ship if he ever couldn't fulfill his duties in an early chapter.

Personally, I think that the idea of a vice captain doesn't fit at all in the dynamics of the crew. Luffy is more of a democratic leader and the hierarchy of his group is flat as he understands how every member is equally important. But if I had to choose an official vice captain, I just can't see any other member matching Jinbe's experience.

Also, this may be an unpopular opinion, but I'm pretty sure that Oda was mocking those who defend that Zoro is the actual vice captain when he wrote that Bartolomeo line stating "he's the person recognized (BY ME) as the vice captain...!".

Zoro was stated as Vice Captain in his vivre card by Oda
He was stated as Combatant. His vice captain role isn't official and nothing makes it different from Franky driving the ship before Jinbe or Usopp fixing the ship before Franky. Actual vice captains like Beckman are explicitly addressed as such.

sanji was leading the crew from dressrosa and took care of bigmoms ship and saved the crew from bege that proves he is just as competent as zoro as a leader
So does this make Sanji the Captain or Co-Captain then?
:steef:

Just makes it's more evidence in favour of zoro tbf. You've just posted moments where zoro and luffy ain't present.
That's when he takes over.

Zoro is the emotional and rational pillar of the crew.
What i mean is that he can bring the others to focus when they are overly emotional and point out the key points and bring back rationality.
This has been a pretty consistent point throughout the journey, and in that sense, he makes most sense.
Sanji is more the wildcard, and Jinbe will be the key strategist and advisor.

I agree Zoro has served the vice captain role more than anyone in the story so far, perhaps i phrased my question wrong but it wasn't about who was the vice captain right now, it was now that Jinbe has became part of the crew will he basically take over that role from Zoro?

I don't think Zoro could have got the crew out of whole cake island or gotten Big Mom of the Sunny the same way that Jinbe did and the way he took command after Luffy entered the Mirror world is the reason the crew survived.

so if a situation like that occurs again and Luffy isn't around, who basically takes command from now on Zoro or Jinbe? that was the question i was really trying to ask lol

Given since Zoro-Fans use panels and position now. Jimbei is VC now. Not Zoro as last chapter show it as well Zoro happily submitting to Boss Jimbei presence as he became waterboy (alcoholboy in this case) by carrying his load for him .

How some still in doubt that who is VC?:seriously: It's zoro.

Based on role, he is the only sh along side Luffy who has primrary role related to fighting.

He is the only SHs along with Luffy, whose dream is related to strength

Many times in absence of Luffy, he acted like VC.

He was first to join and manga indirectly referred zoro as VC through various other characters which imply that Oda sees him as such

Even VC and databook referred him so.

Yes jinbei has more experience but that doesn't make him qualified to become VC. Oda won't change crew dynamics and role after 20 years because some salty fans want so...
