General & Others One Piece live action trailer dropped

I don't get this thought process of "modernisation" of media. People follow the manga because of how it is, humour included.

Instead of keeping the essence of the manga though, it looks like they are going to turn One Piece into Guardians of the Gala-Sea because apparently only Marvel's patented incessant quipping "humour" is allowed. :tchpepe:
You act as if One Piece doesn’t already use that type of humor.

Well, this is from East Blue

Humour’s pretty generic straight man/funny man (what’s the japanese term, something starting with a t/boke)

Funny man says something earnest and stupid, straight man corrects him.

It’s hardly the peak in wit and humour but it can be found quite often in One Piece. Usually with the boke (most often Usopp) having sharp teeth and shouting.

The special moves joke is fine.

The sensing some tension one is less Luffy. There’s an awareness that he doesn’t have in the manga. Maybe some more western attempted disarm snark. But I simply don’t think a full one to one will come across well anyway.

Course, that could raise the question why bother trying, fair enough. And this may well turn out to be total shit. But I don’t especially think these snippets we‘ve seen quite hit the bar of One Piece has been bastardised and ruined comments just yet.

no one wants to see cringy japanese humour where the characters keep acting tsundere and calling each other baka

it's so obvious how insecure oda is about one piece lacking in global popularity compared to naruto and dragon ball. He's desperately resorted to trying to raise popularity with shitty fanservice movies like film red, and now with this dumb live action series. It's not going to work, in fact it will probably deter people from one piece even more.

It's not insecurity but milking the series before it ends in every possible way.

And, reaching to global audience is best way.

It's fine as long as Netflix delivers on it.

but he's not doing it in the right way. Oda is trying to give fanservice but he doesnt understand what the fans actually want. Dragon ball did the fanservice/milking right. They gave us the broly movie which gave spotlight to characters the fans enjoy and care about and gave amazing fights, which is something any culture can appreciate. Meanwhile oda creates wannabe disney movie with an unknown anime girl because he thinks dancing anime girl fanservice is what will make one piece more popular. And now he thinks a live action will help. If one piece fans themselves don't like it then i cant imagine how any non-op fan will care about this movie.

That's where you misunderstood.

He isn't targetting the audience who are already in op - manga or anime. He knows it and we know it that those who made up this far will finish it.

His Target is to enhance the reach and attract those who aren't into OP as of now. And, let's be real - even among the manga readers there will be many who will give LA a shot or will even like it.
