Honestly I expected this with the guras awakening and maybe post Wano volcanic eruption too funnily enough.

This part of the chapter is very interesting, having the sea levels rising extremely drastically and islands being sunk due to it.
Now that's a truly world threatening disaster.
Also extremely relevant to IRL now especially lol. Oda definitely doing that on purpose as a meta allegory or whatever.

Reward was equally spread. SH crew got even lesser reward than Beast Pirates.
Now you will see the difference.

Tbh, I don't recall if Luffy was declared a great pirate after defeating Kaidou. But considering that Kaidou never appeared with that title in his introduction box, only Big Mom and Whitebeard together with Roger, not even Shanks, it seems that Oda is giving the "great pirate" title to people from the same era as Roger, and stopped giving it to Shanks and Kaidou. However, Garp referred to them as great pirates, so it's essentially the same.
