There are levels to this. Was Kenichi ever in the top 3 most popular in Bleach polls? I don't think so. The same list myanimelist where Zoro is top 5, Kenpachi is not in top 150. As I said, Zoro is way more likable than Kenichi.
Stop this nonsense, you don't understand Zoro's character
I do, he is loyal and level headed. Always there to give sound advice to the crew, etc but most of the reason hes liked is because hes badass, strikes cool poses and delivers cool one liners.

No you don't. Because you would have mentioned how the man who threatened to kill Luffy if came between his ambition was willing to throw his life for Luffy at Thriller Bak. You would have mentioned the man who lives by the bushido code and believes in swordsmen's honor bowed, begged and humiliated himself to his nemesis for the sake of the crew. Thats character development. You reduced Zoro to cool one liners.

That the best examples of your character have happened 13 years ago, and nothing worth mentioning has happened since?
Just to laugh, Kenpachi had his awakening plotline in 2014, even that is most recent.

Thats a silly argument. It would be similar to call Michael Jordan an average player based on his career at Wizard. You need to judge his total career to rate him fairly.
The only deep thing Zoro has shown is his loyalty to the crew, other then that he just does badass poses, says badass one liners and fights in a cool way. So why are people giving kenpachi shit for just being a cool fight loving guy?
Yeah, Zoro's speech about Usopp and sacrifice at Thriller Bark goes beyond "loyalty to his crew" and is consistent with his character throughout the series. Stop the cope. Kenpachi has no character-depth. Neither does Byakuga. Show me the panels where either of those guys displayed profound character traits and ideals.
Same goes for Sasuke.
- Started as an edgy boy wanting revenge on his bro
- After that, wanted revenge on the village
- After that, wanted to become Hokage - something Naruto wanted before it was cool

An interesting video elaborating Zoro's stoic way of thinking and acting:
Calling this an "average" character who just spits badass one liners is quite the understatement.

Exactly my point.
Zoro pre time skip was a great character, he was MJ at bulls.
Zoro post time skip is MJ at the Wizards.
Does this mean that the bulls period is forgotten? No, of course. But it makes the overall average lower.
If Zoro pre time skip was an 8, after time skip he is barely a 5, maybe a 4.
Because it's only Luffy's show

Read up above I said he represents the loyal samurai trope. As for the rest it falls within him being loyal. He threatened Luffy if he got in the way of his dream yet was willing to abandon it for his sake later on. Shows character deveopment. Unfortunately most of it was pre skip.
I don't know how it is in countries, but here in my country, Zoro is by far the most popular OP character, even those who don't read/watch OP know Zoro. He is without a doubt a 10.
