ONE PIECE Live Action - Episodes Discussion Thread

Before I write my full review, I wanted to write a summary first. This will be included in the review.
One Piece live action has its ups and downs. I think any One Piece fan can appreciate what's on display here but some narrative changes are questionable at best, others are borderline unbearable. Poor time allocation made the experience feel pretty disjointed and Syrup village turned out to get way more focus than it should have when that time could have been better spent trying to make other parts of the narrative more faithful to the original story.

Some characters feel way too different and there's no better example of that than Garp. We'll get into that more in the full review. The sets were incredible for the most part and I have to give credit where its due to most of the castings. Most of the characters looked on point with some notable exceptions being Shanks and Ben Beckman. They are just not them. I didn't expect them to look 1:1 but they look quite underwhelming imo.

Zoro and Sanji's choreography were the only consistently good action parts. That isn't to say there aren't other good action scenes but I feel like the most effort went into theirs. I can't knock them for Luffy's action scenes falling short given that they had to do the CG but there were too many times where characters would legitimately just stand still and take punches in his fight scenes. I actually cracked up laughing when Alvida did that in episode 1.

Right quick I have to give a shoutout to the show runners for all of the easter eggs and things. You can tell that most people involved with production actually cared about the IP and wanted to do it justice. There is no way we would have gotten so many nods to the manga without their incredible attention to detail and passion for the series, they definitely deserve to be celebrated for their part in trying to bring this series to life. Overall, it could have turned out a LOT worse. I'm happy to say I enjoyed a lot of things about this adaptation but it is not without its problems. An enjoyable 6/10 for me. Real One Piece fans will not hate this for the most part but you do need to approach it with an open mind. If you go in expecting to hate it, you most likely will hate it.

You whole comment smells like "I dont like it, because i didnt want to like it from beginn with", which is a usual issue for fans when their main source (doesnt matter if Book, Manga, Movie, Game...) gets "translated" into another medium. It seems like you are just not open for this "new experience" and stick to hard on your imagine of the original. Which is understandable, absolutely, but goes off about real critism, because you dont critizise the product for what it is and what it want to be. Specially when you not even watch it fully or even start to watch it honestly, since yourself stated you only watched the fights.
I never said i want it to be bad and fail, no idea where this stupid ''smell'' comes from...
''You didn't like it, because you didn't wanted to like it'' - is the mindset of someone who can't accept a different opinion. You are literaly saying someone can't dislike it, unless they didn't wanted to like it in the first place, which is just stupid. With that you are placing your opinion as the right one. There is a thing called subjective opinion, everybody has their own views and opinions about things and they don't always gonna be the same as yours.
There gonna be things people like but you dislike and vice versa.

My low expectations came from previous LA adaptations and the latest Netflix movies who all dropped in quality quite a bit. Hence why my expectation were never high to begin with. That is called being realistic and this way you can get a pretty good idea how it most likely is gonna end up, based on previous results.

I watched the fights - in which they talk! I have seen the last part where they call out their goals - which is just talking. I saw some other scenes with the SH's talking with each other and other people. And in all of those instances the dialogues were cringe and the acting was bad.
But you and some other say i need to watch the whole thing in order to see how the acting game is? So you are telling me the acting was only bad in those scenes and the rest is great?

Which is understandable, absolutely, but goes off about real critism, because you dont critizise the product for what it is and what it want to be.
Critizise the product for what it is and what it want to be? That is the dumbest thing ever.
Does it want to have bad acting? Does it want to have bad dialogue? Does it want to have bad choreography? Highly doubt that is what they wanted it to be. But that's what we got.

So again, i never wanted it to fail and even said in another thread a few months ago - If the LA is shit, it's shit and if it's good, it's good.

It seems like you are just not open for this "new experience" and stick to hard on your imagine of the original.
That is the exact opposite of what i said...i litearly said they should have made changes towards the acting and dialogues - so it would NOT be like in the anime/manga source.
That is the problem with the LA, they tried too hard to make it like an anime and that never goes well.

And btw those are the only things i criticized. I didn't criticize the pacing, i didn't criticize the world building, i didn't criticize the changes they made, because i haven't seen it. But me watching the whole thing is not gonna change the fact that the acting is bad - i don't need to see the whole thing for that.

Listen you can hate the live action, that is fine but at least watch it in full so that you can accurately hate on it rather than having an empty argument.

You didn't watch it, you don't have a basis for your opinion. I watched lots of shows that I hated I know where they failed.

Now the main issue with your initial argument wasn't that it's your opinion and you don't like it. It's because you gave evidence you don't know what you are talking about and you were even contradicting yourself. Expected from someone who didn't watch the show.

Anyway go watch Dragon Ball Evolution. That's obviously most suitable for your taste.

I honestly don't think your opinion will change at all if you watch it, it will be even worse if you like the Baratie arc in the manga.

Even if he doesn't watch it in full, it would be ok. He thinks he can genuinely rate the entire show while being completely in the dark about the show.

He gave it away he's clueless when he said the show follows the source material too closely, when clearly it doesn't.

Honestly despite enjoying season 1, I don't think I want a season 2 simply for the fact that live action chopper is gonna be more cursed than those transponder snails. Those fuckers gave me a jump scare.
I thought that's definitely what the snails would look like if they were real. Good CGI!

Do you guys have reading comprehension problems or something? I am talking about the acting the whole fucking time and you get some random guy quoting me saying ''You dislike it, because you don't want to like it'' or ''Watch the whole thing, before hating on it''....

Since you didn't read my comment you quoted, i don't critize anything besides the acting and things that have to do with it - I didn't criticize the pacing, i didn't criticize the world building, i didn't criticize the changes they made etc.

This whole quote ''war'' here started, because i said i don't see myself getting through those episodes without dying of cringe, BECAUSE OF THE ACTING!!!!

My concerns for this LA were all mostly for the acting, because anime LA's always tend to try to hard to talk like anime characters and that just always ends up terrible. That's it.
So stop acting like i am hating on the LA as a whole....i am not.

@AverageNamiEnjoyer how do you like this show so far? There was so much Luffy and Nami moments :D
I didn't watch it.
Lunami was kinda trending in japan yesterday.
I have seen too many Japanese comments about Luffy/Nami. So it must be good.

I am kinda going to compare it too much with manga.
Looks like not made for people like me.
Also heard they removed half of the scenes of arlong park to include Garp and Coby. I already hate it.
Not gonna watch it lol....

I read all of your posts actually. I don't think its fair to criticize all of the acting just because you watched a few cherry picked scenes though. I'm just saying at least watch it if you're going to say its bad. Otherwise you're not really offering valid criticisms, they are just impressions.

Are you actualy retarded or something?
Nowhere did i rate the entire show. Where the hell did you get that from? I was always talking about the acting...

Where did i say the show follows the source material too closely? lmao you are literaly making stuff up your ass.
And the dialogues are just pure cringe, because they again try to hard to copy the anime, nobody talks like that in the real world, when will those producers finaly understand this? If you are making a real life adaptation, then let them talk like real human beings...
That is what i said...
They are trying too hard to be like an anime in terms of dialogues, not that the whole show is too close to the manga...
