I have thought about it. And I wonder if Fincher isn't an average director to be honest. He didn't do anything that great except for Seven after all.
I'd have to disagree. Fight Club, Zodiac and Social Network. All great movies. I like Se7en the best most of the time but the others are great as well.
Fincher is very dependent on the qualify of the source material, but regardless, to call him average is a bit exaggerated. He has a distinctive style that can work with some stories, with some it does not fit as much.
(Re)watched a few movies recently:
Donnie Darko: I can see why it´s a cult classic still but I was not as impressed as when I first watched it as a teenager, 7/10
Andhadhun: Indian comedy, hilarious, would not be surprised if they remake it in Hollywood, 9/10.
So long, my son: Chinese movie about two families living through the 1980s (especially one child policy) up to the 2000s and the economic wonder, highly recommended 10/10.
Secret in their eyes: Rewatch after hearing more and more about Argentina in the news, still one of my favorite movies, 10/10.
