What was the last movie you watched?

Killers of the flower moon. It was good but unnecessarily long.
Do you think movies have to last a certain time and not more nor less ? It's true it was long, so long that my ass was hurt because of sitting, but I don't think films should be restricted to a time-limit. Wether it's 2 or 10hours. Maybe an intermission can be nice when it's very long though. But this would mean even more time spent at the cinema and less screenings per day.

Scorsese obviously stretched his craft to last this long by choice. Running time wasn't really a problem for me. I've sat through longer and more contemplative films before. It's just what I signed for when I bought the ticket. What I would consider unnecessarily long is an annoying film.

So you think the length is justified?

Watched May December, difficult subject matter that was depicted without sensationalism, and the two "messages" of the film definitely are impactful. Portman´s acting top notch. Soundtrack was awful, I think I can surmise what the director was going for with the OST, but it was still annoying.
8/10.

My point is that the notions of "justification" or "necessity" do not belong here for me.

Was I irritated ? no. Then it's okay for me.

Films usually last a certain time because of two things. It shall make money and it shall not lose their viewer (because the human brain usually disconnects after a certain time). And also we got used to the 90 to 120min length.

Most films these days go on at least 20 minutes longer than they need to
Keep it in that 90 to 120 minutes unless it absolutely needs more which a lot of them don't need

For me it´s on an individual basis.
If the story is narrative-driven then having an appropriate length is more important than something that is world- or character-driven since for the latter, having more to see is of the world/character probably adds to it.
On the other hand scenes not adding much to the narrative might distract from it.

Oppenheimer 2023 - Solid movie.
However, I think it is overrated.
Maybe my expectations were in the wrong direction.
It is overrated.

I have thought about it. And I wonder if Fincher isn't an average director to be honest. He didn't do anything that great except for Seven after all.
I'd have to disagree. Fight Club, Zodiac and Social Network. All great movies. I like Se7en the best most of the time but the others are great as well.

Fincher is very dependent on the qualify of the source material, but regardless, to call him average is a bit exaggerated. He has a distinctive style that can work with some stories, with some it does not fit as much.

(Re)watched a few movies recently:

Donnie Darko: I can see why it´s a cult classic still but I was not as impressed as when I first watched it as a teenager, 7/10

Andhadhun: Indian comedy, hilarious, would not be surprised if they remake it in Hollywood, 9/10.

So long, my son: Chinese movie about two families living through the 1980s (especially one child policy) up to the 2000s and the economic wonder, highly recommended 10/10.

Secret in their eyes: Rewatch after hearing more and more about Argentina in the news, still one of my favorite movies, 10/10.
