And ended up retreating even after obtaining the Gura Gura no Mi and challenging Sengoku and Garp. Against a Shanks that lost an arm.

Obviously, Shanks has a far greater growth rate than Blackbeard. Just like Luffy left most of his enemies behind by a large gap. What about Shanks having two arms and getting a top tier DF.

Blackbeard was bloodlusted and wanted to sink marineford. When Shanks arrived and challenged both marines and BB pirates post Gura, marines gave up and BB ran away.
