Powers & Abilities General CoA Discussion - Basic & Advanced

Kaidou said "Oden's Ryuo". It can imply "Oden's quality of Ryuo". Hyogoro said that Ryuo has flowing characteristic. So it can flow to the limbs, making it black and hardened, it can flow to the sword making it cut what they want.

And Hyo said Luffy's Ryuo collar feat is beyond anything Hyo can teach him (perform).

That being said, Ryuo is general term of haki. Encompasing basic, hardening, barrier advanced (Hyo example 1 - scabbard), penetration advanced level 2 (Hyo example 2).
If Ryou encompass all form of haki, how the reader is supposed to know what kind of haki was used? When Kaido Oden’s Ryuo did he meant « barrier haki » or « pénétration haki »?

Thats the point. Since Ryuo is haki in general, and Hyogoro's examples of Ryuo cover general terms, us readers aren't supposed to know explicitly.

But penetration haki didn't need to make visible surface wounds. Luffy's tree was destroyed at the backside, none at the front. So it wasntwhat Kinemon did. While Barrier, since it approaches from outside, will make wound from outside to the inside, just like how Kinemon's sword managed to stab through Kaidou's skin surface.

Other factors, Yamato's cuff that was locked for years. If the samurais or scabbards (Denjiro?) had once come across Yamato, then they didnt have penetration Ryuo since they cant unlock it.

That’s does not make sense narratively for the reader to not know from the get go what type of Haki is used.

When Oda introduced FS, he called it FS and we were not supposed to think that he was a term that encompass all of the CoO abilities.

When Oda introduced hardening he made it clear that it was blackening a object or the body.

We should not have to make inference to know what kind of haki is used or not. It should be clear.

Denjiro has no reason to free Yamato and geopardized his position.

I think you can go to the Udon prison chapter. Ryuo means flowing since it flows, and swordsman use it to cut what they want. Then there're those two pictures of barrier and penetrating. In Oden and Kinemon's case, he cut it from outside so it was most likely sword barrier.

I agree with that.
What I disagree with, is the idea that Ryuo encompass all form of CoA because it would be confusing for the readers.

The ryou is general term for haki. More specifically for CoA haki.

Hyo clearly talked about this.

The difference is in wano they focus on learning this and train themselves in this aspect of haki and have specific term for it - Ryou the flow.

But is it different from armament haki? No.

Hardening works with same concept. One has to channelize or flow their haki into one specific body part to make it hard or into another object to make it temporary black or coat it.

Taking it to another level is when you flow this haki into someone's body to destroy it form within

I think there's the need to differentiate between when a weapon user or specifically a swordsman uses advanced COA and when an unarmed combatant uses it. For swordsmen it would be the ability to cut anything they wish and for unarmed combatant , it will be the ability to destroy things from the inside.
That means advanced CoA just boosts the attack potency of said weapon users, but why did Roger and WB CoA clash without touching with Oden emphasizing it? Or is making Haki flow outside your sword is just another advanced CoA utilization a swordsman can use?

Tbf to us we wont know what would have happened if roger or pb did that to someone that didnt counter it.

For me I think they didn't touch because they flowed their haki outwards from the sword. I think the prep which showed their haki extending beyond the sword was what led to them not even touching.

I think that for swordsmen, since their nature is to cut, it wouldn't be reasonable for them using pebetration haki by blowing someone from the inside. I don't see how that will work for a swordsman

I agree that it seems far more realistic for advanced CoA to amplify the damage of a weapon/sword instead of projecting the flow of Haki/evaporating things from inside out, but if this is the case then normal readers who aren't invested in PLs would struggle to differentiate between normal and advanced CoA usage in weapons without visible indicator. Like with Kinemon and Kiku case.

Anime would be fine adding effects and shit.

For me I view it as if a swordsman is able to cut anything they want to cut (say the height being Kaido's body) then that is an indicator of them using advanced COA. Because we know normal attacks do not work on Kaido.

I can't believe that all the scabbards have the penetration haki :lusalty:
It is because of their willpower at that particular time. They went in there fully to die and using the Snatch word also influences this aspect. Haki is all about willpower and ambition so it is not entirely out of the norm that they were able to put their wills through the swords into cutting Kaido
