I'd much prefer that. Some type of sneak attack to take out a calamity. Or maybe just a straight up solid 1v1. He seems very confident/cocky about it all. More than likely he has studied the calamities and their weaknesses.

Don't know what the conversation is about but it wasn't sword. Kaido did say that their sword won't hurt him implying he had fights with swordsmen that didn't do jack shit to him with their sword.
Back on his intro it was also said that swords broke at the execution time.

And Kaido specifically mention that they had Oden's haki.

So adv haki can hurt him not just a regular sword.

Swords are the only thing that ever left a scar on Kaido.
Haki blasting cant even budge his scales, it's there to attack the insides instead of the scales.
