Stalling in a sense that the pace has slowed down considerably.

We've now had two chapters in a row (with this one it might be three in a row), where really not much story-progress happened.

Just think about it: Three chapters ago Kaido took the scabbards to the rooftop and the minks were about to go into sulong-form.

I mean those last few chapters weren't bad per-se, but how has the story progressed since chapter 987?

Big Mom has been trolled two times, Yamato is still creeping around and Momo has been freed. That's it though. Literally nothing else has changed since the ending of chapter 987. We haven't even seen anything from the minks or Kaido again.

Yeah, but its not "stalling". The answer is 60+ characters and Oda doesnt like advancing the story when he hasnt placed everyone where they need to be for whatever moment he plans for them.


For example: This chapter, he wanted Drake/Hawkins to be with Luffy it seems, but he wanted it to happen after he drew the Strawhats together because he likely will not have that moment again for a long time. So he waited nearly 10 chapters to have Drake partner up with Luffy because its when the structure made most sense to Oda.


Now multiply that by the Number of characters still MIA. He still has plans for Kid, Killer, Law, Ulti, P1, Black Maria, Sasaki, Apoo, Marco, Pero, Big Mom but keeps them out of chapters until they play their roles in a certain moment.

So its not stalling, its just the pure fact that Oda doesnt like spending dedicated chapters on specific characters until he feels comfortable everyone else in their right place.

This was DR's problem until the last 20 chapters of battles. It was a Mashup of perspectives and random clashes until everyone was where they needed to be.

And people say Oda is speeding the story up.

That's the weird thing about pacing

Oda can make big plot points like the scabbards fighting kaido extremely short. For example we cut to Kaido having beaten everyone Off screen.

But then Oda can make useless insignificant plot points last way too long. For example this Zoro and Luffy Climbing up to fight kaido.

So you end up with a situation where the plot is slow for shit no one cares about and then it's too fast for important shit

Wait is xDrake already facing WsW? Do they encounter each other? Probably the next battle who would decide, well unexpected but I like it. How you can give WsW enough hype? Let him beat a strong Supernova as Drake. Over top after his win he could even take on Yamato and caught her too.
Would kinda give really great hype for WsW.

yes they're basically next to panel. so its pretty clear Who'Who already meet X-Drake.

The more I see of this raid, the more I hope it fails spectaculary and that the true war will happen on the mainland with the BMP, the Navy and possibly the CP0 too being involved.
