So what would Zoro be doing if he made it up to the roof to help Kin'emon and the others out?

Asura makes Zoro one shot an opponent he is stalemating with.
So far not even Killer managed to stalemate Base Zoro, Apoo is the closer who is achieving that and yet the fight was too small to better figure.
If Apoo is YC2 or YC3 level and he is just as strong as Base Zoro, that will equate to Zoro being able to one shot an opponent of that caliber with Asura.

And if you read the OP, this was my exact point. Luffy took both Law and Zoro to fight Doffy
And then let Zoro behind to fight Doffy's strongest commander
It's not just Zoro who is going up there. It's Jinbe and Sanji where you get
Luffy + Law + Kid vs. Kaido
Zoro vs. King
Sanji vs. Queen
Jinbe vs. Jack
Pica even has the same style mask as King. Oda's recycling of themes hits you on the nose, and you still ignore it.
Jinbei and Sanji stated that they wanted Luffy to keep his energy for the Kaido's fight...unlike Zoro who's focused on Kaido only
He could've stopped Queen for exemple to let Luffy goes on the roof alone but decided to go with him

Mate, who is going to stop King, Queen, Jack? They will do anything to stop SHs from getting to Kaido.

Zoro also mentioned that King and Queen are standing in the way and neither is an easy get this chapter.
There was significant buildup for Law in Dressrosa too, but we saw how that played out. Law played a significant role but did not finish the job.
I think it's safe to assume Zoro will have a role being that he's a supernova and has ties to Kadio, but how much of a role depends on how much of a Luffy show Oda wants it to be among other things. That takes not just reading comprehension which is reading the lines, it takes understanding the kind of story the writer is writing. All that to say, better to keep your expectations low and have them be surpassed than the reverse.
