How can you be true rivals when teach is yonko
Luffy is yet to be solid admjral level even
Luffy can only be counted rivals yo Yonko when he becomes one
Shanks wasn't their rival until 6 years ago

The term ‘Supernova’ has literally been made irrelevant post timeskip because Oda wanted to emphasise that Blackbeard and Luffy are in the same generation. Hence, “Worst Generation.”
Take Kid out of the story and nothing changes- reflection of how the Supernova were not intended. Take Blackbeard out of the story and everything changes, cause this guy has been planned from the start and is going to be key to the end.
Compare the crews, Kid has Killer as a Zoro analogue. And two guys that have been named in a Databook and have never been focused on in the slightest. Whereas Blackbeard has his Ten Titan Captains who have been built for every Strawhat.
End of the day I doubt Luffy is ever going to fight Kid, making him a rather pathetic rival.
Teach isn't his true rival
It's like thinking Roger could compete with Xebec when he couldn't on his own for 12 years before xebec fall.
Xebec was leagues above Roger. Same way Teach is to Luffy until luffy catches up later on
Teach doesn't even view luffy as a rival .
While Kidd is near Luffy...luffy views kidd as rival too.

I think there's substantially no reason to consider other scenarios when there ain't even hints portraying them.
One could object and say that the World Government is the real final enemy, but that's the purest speculation when we have no clue about their power levels and it's discouraging to hear that Luffy's final opponent will not also be the strongest not only he will face, but in general anyone of the new guard will face.

I think folk have a headcanon from what they expected from Kid in Saobody and they’ve just never accepted the reality of how his story has actually went. I can’t actually fathom how anyone could think he’s a bigger rival to Luffy than Blackbeard is
Luffy’s in a different stratosphere from Kid in every respect. You know how Kid tried to set up an alliance between him, Apoo and Hawkins to beat Shanks?
He’d need to do the same thing to try and beat Luffy, and he still wouldn’t manage it.
There is a reason that Luffy is being called the fifth emperor, and that’s because he’s heaven and earth above any non-Yonko pirate crew. Imagine the Strawhats and Grand Fleet vs the Kid Pirates. Absolute massacre. Even the Strawhats vs Kid Pirates alone is a massacre. I reckon LZSJ alone could beat his entire crew.

While Newgate did Rival Roger , the real rival of Roger was Xebec honestly and it was specifically mentioned by Sengoku as Roger's most formidable rival the only difference that Xebec was erased from history while Newgate's legend is still around for people to talk about
So if you want to put parallels or whatever
Kid = Newgate
Teach = Xebec
Luffy = Roger
Luffy and Teach will still be the MAIN rivalry of the series

When Luffy saw Kid beating him in the race to Onigashima,he was immediately annoyed (rivalry),same thing when Jinbei told him about Kid making it to the banquet hall first.
When they meet in the next couple of chapters,the same shit is bound to happen.
So yeah Kid may not rival Luffy in achievements and strength,but he clearly rivals Luffy in mentality and that's what makes Luffy consider him a rival.
