I am kinda getting the hang of the scenario,so Luffy and Company will face the yonko's meanwhile Marco,Jinbe,sanji and the remaining Strawhats with the commanders.
Oda probably had it pre planned,glad Law is finally brought back into some action,dude was kept out for so long, even had his fight off panelled,altho its a bummer even scrubs like Killer are there but oh well it's still going to be interesting.

LA001, Zoro is mid diffing King before going for Kaido's head
He simply didn't want to portray King's defeat in just a few panels, Oda usually portrays quality fights when it comes to the SHs and also when it comes to yonko first mates.
I think cutting kaido is a bigger AP feat than any YC1 has ever shown and probably will ever show
The way I see it, people think king being able to fly is some major disadvantage to Zoro and oda would be unfair giving Zoro a flying opponent yet how I see it is that King being able to fly is the reason king won't get one shot by Zoro
Zoro's fight with laid could easily boil down to Zoro's AP since there is bunch more other people there while Zoro's fight with king is what will testeverything from range to endurance and speed and that's who it will be harder for Zoro
The main reason I see this happening in this order is that it's already happening. Oda went so much out of his way to make sure Zoro wants a piece of kaido right now and king is distracted with Marco.
Like you suggested, oda could do something with king having ties to Zoro personally since u believe king was the ruler of Ringo hence ryuma's temple and shusui can return BUT none of this personal attachment will matter if ZORO DOESN'T CARE. And he doesn't.
Zoro has a weird itch to scratch regarding kaido and him getting into a fight with king BEFORE he's done with kaido will just have him distracted. I don't want Zoro to be fighting king while saying "Man have to hurry to get back to kaido".... nah Zoro should get done with kaido and be fully invested in the fight with king and then afterwards if he has time he can go back to kaido or whatever
Its just that it is too unique a situation for Zoro to want to fight the main villain so much and it wouldn't work well if he's fighting someone else while complaining about waning to go back for the main villain

Its totally something to do with the endgame. Sabo and Ace basically thought he was weird for saying it. For someone like WB/Oden to think the same thing, it sounds like its something super outlandish.
To me it doesnt sound like a personal goal for Luffy, but a goal he has for the world (i.e. freeing the entire world or making everyone laugh or some ridiculous shit). I do think it'll be a big deal though
