I didnt say he cannot do it w/o gears, I said he can consistently do so with Gear 2nd. The point is Daz Bones DF gave him a defense similar to Tekkai.

Daz's steel body was very much like CP9's Tekkai. Luffy & Sanji were able to consistently damage such lvls of toughness after Gear 2nd & Diable Jambe. Conversely, the move that cut down Daz was also dangerous to Kaku and he wasnt comfortable defending it with Tekkai.
