I think the key point is that the source material was very cleverly created.
I mean it has lots of the year 2 fan favorites, it is all technically canon rather than filler, offers a different perspective than Itadori had etc. all the while not necessarily being "required viewing" for the anime...
There is a literal panel saying SEVERAL, not 1, not 2, SEVERAL,
TENS
of minutes.
I say 20-30 minutes because that is what that panel is specificially saying.
Oda being inconsistent with other events is irrelevant, this was clear mapping the duration of Luffys 1vs1 against Kaidou with an event...
btw if you are anime only, to clarify Sanji's flashback with Zoro when Zoro got wrapped up was "several 10s of minutes" ago, using the jyuu character for 10.
The implication being that Luffy and Kaidou canonically have been fighting a 1vs1 for 20-30 minutes.
They get stronger each island.
Haki blooms on the battlefield.
Luffy wasn't an underdog until Crocodile in the series.
Luffy wasn't an underdog in post TS against Hody- Cracker, just sloppy in certain aspects.
He was a genuine underdog against Katakuri (until FS) and Kaidou (until learning adv...
The marines were largely mediocre aside from Garp in his generation.
Luffy was the one who Garp wanted to make the hero of the marines.
Can't help if he's left with fodder after losing his grandson to piracy.
It was revealed through absence of a reveal way back in the Ace/Sabo flashback that his words were more mysterious than that.
Then you have moments like Shanks being shocked to his core that Luffy said the "same words" as Roger, and then a full on flashback that exactly mirrors Luffy/Sabo/Ace...
This is standard and to be expected of tanky yonko level characters. Mihawk isn't damaging a serious blocking tanky yonko.
"mountain cutting" is a fake feat to begin with, designed to look flashy but ineffective against durable humanoid characters.
apologies, I was referring to when the SBS was written so should have posted "was".
Zoro and Sanji were determined at the time to be CoA and CoO specialists.
It's confirmed via SBS that Zoro is a CoA specialist, not a CoC specialist, by Oda, stop the copium.
CoC is the one haki that can't be trained in the same way so is more relevant to be an innate specialist, like Luffy.
there is no connection between Zoro and WB. WB is a fruit user CoC specialist, Zoro is a swordsman CoA specialist.
There is clear connection between Zoro and Rayleigh, much weaker than their captains, with them through thick and thin starting their adventure together, older than their captains.
