Shanks is a Gary Stu done well. He is not overwanked (like Oden or Gojo) He doesn't take away from main character screentime. Gary Stu characters are not automatically bad just for being Gary Stu characters. If they are done well, there is nothing wrong with it.

I won't let the community influence me on what characters I like and hate. I love Zoro and I don't care how annoying his fanbase is, it's not going to influence me. Same for Shanks. I never really cared about Kid, before the slander and after the slander.

Akainu doesn't kill non-pirates. The Ohara ship was an exception since he was afraid someone might have been on the ship that could read poneglyps. I wouldn't want to spend a day with Akainu either, but he wouldn't kill you unless you are a criminal.
