We've seen a certain form of reward from various mangas and manhwas, which is: the pay-off from all the struggle to become strong. We've seen it in most shonen, even manhwas like Solo Leveling which pull of the biggest pay-off at the earlier part of the series.
It was after MC beat Igris in the best fight and struggle of the entire manhwa: That the MC get the ability to become a necromancer, something that allows the MC to literally buldoze through the rest of the series, thus be placed on pedestal of admiration from the rest of the world.
The pay-off also made the manhwa extremely boring since there is literally no more tension left and the fight results become predictable. Is it because of mismanagement of the reward as the author? Maybe the MC should get the pay-off later in the story instead of earlier, so that he doesnt become unbeatable too early? Or the existence of strength reward for the MC will make the follow-up boring, no matter what the author does?
But after seeing Luffy's power right now, is it finally time for Oda to set Luffy free from his underdog narrative? Will Luffy finally achieve some acknowledgement from other bigshots he meet? Will the fight of Luffy vs Shanks and Luffy vs Blackbeard, finally be the decisive fight between equals, who acknowledges each other as personification of greatness? The result of which dont depend on extreme powerups as the main cause, but instead the techniques, matchups, tactics or some ruthless twist that Luffy pulls when he adapts to his opponents?
...or will the Rubber Boi still get oneshotted by Shanks or Teach at their first meeting, only to match them in base a while later in the next rounds? Discuss.
