Ask yourself if holding the sword gives you additional powers;
If it does then it is a power up
If it doesn't then it isn't a power up.

It's a powerup in the sense that it's a better sword than Shisui overall but it doesn't have a 'magical power' other than overloading an attack with the user's haki that we know of.
They are the same grade so it is not necessarily a better sword

So, if they are the same, is Zoro dumb for taking a worse sword (since it wasnt permanent blackened yet) to fight a yonko, after all his preach about "this is the new world. we need to get serious. cant be playing games no more"?

How is it a worse sword when they are the same grade?
They are the same grade because shusui is black.

So base Enma=Black Shuusui?
Considering Enma still will become black, than Enma is better.
If base Enma>Black Shuusui, Enma is also better.
If base Enma<Black Shuusui, he took something inferior to fight Kaido.
If black Enma=Black Shuusui, again, he took something inferior, because there's the haki sucking gimmick.
And if Zoro masters Enma's gimmick, what does it say about Oden, who used two Enmas? (as far as we know, ame-no-habakiri might as well be just as gimmicky).

I just consider base Enma>Black Shuusui because it makes it less moronic to think about. But, in the end, is more something to wank Oden, than it is to wank Zoro.
Trash ass magic blade.

You know most of these are completely irrelevant right?
Manga states them as same grade so your opinion of one being better than the other will Just be an invalid opinion.
When Enma turns black, that is when it becomes the better sword. Before that happens, they are ranked the same

The best swordsman wants the best sword. A swordsman who can't win without the best sword isn't the best swordsman. These two statements are not contradictory.

There's no settling anything "once and for all" here because there's such little thought applied. We'll see this thread again and again...

They're the same grade despite Shisui being a black blade, we know making a sword a black blade makes the sword increase in rank so base Enma > base Shisui

Except there's no such thing as base Shusui. Until Enma becomes black, they occupy the same rank. Zoro switched swords which occupy the same rank. Claiming one is above the other is canonically false

Right. I was going along with the idea of one over the other for sake of argument, and the idea that preference is supported by the compared reputations (Enma is mighty Shusui is legendary).

But the rank thing is bullshit. Like 12 top swords, 21 great, 50 very good. Okay... but who records the level up for a black blade? Who noted the destruction of Yubashiri? And so on. I'm just going to say Shusui is superior as it's a black blade until Enma becomes black and Zoro himself says it's equal or better.

There is such a thing as base Shusui because....Shusui wasn't always a black blade. Shusui used to be a rank below before it was a black blade while base Enma is already the same grade as a black blade Shisui.

I don't think some things require much analyzing. We just need to take it as it is shown. Obviously people will have their preferences for either sword but the only thing we know for a fact is that they occupy the same rank

Were we introduced to a base Shusui in the manga? We were not.
The argument here is claiming Enma is the superior sword is canonically false because shusui shares in the same rank. It being a black blade changed it forever so there's no base Shusui.
When someone mentions Shusui as the sword, it is black blade Shusui

In order to forge a black blade, you must have a decently strong armament and "become one" with the sword. The reason why Oden didn't turn his blades black because his armament and sword "bonding" wasn't strong enough.
