One of my most unpopular political opinions is that the US ignoring the advice of many of the officers in WW2 (Eisenhower did not want to nuke Japan) and choosing to drop those two nukes directly led to the Cold War becoming as bad as it did. Imagine fighting against the Nazis for years, and then, right at the end of the war, you find out that the remaining superpower in the world has just developed the ability to more or less bring about the apocalypse. The Russian government didn't even need to run propaganda to make the US look like the bad guys, the dumbass country did it themselves, willingly.
Nuking Japan when they were on the verge of surrender was incredibly irresponsible, barbaric, and just plain wrong.
So many people in the military tried to stop it from happening, but, the US cared more about becoming "Death, destroyer of worlds" rather than the geopolitical consequences of nuking two civilain cities to end an already dwindling war. Japan's military was falling apart, sanctions and blockading had destroyed their food and resources.
The military industrial complex and deep state decided to destroy a bunch of innocent civilian's lives, just as a show of military force.
Humanity never left the dark ages, we're just so arrogant we automatically assume people before us were stupider.
Technology has advanced, humans are regressing. As a species, we honestly learned nothing from WW2. The Jewish people who survived the Holocaust and begged people to not keep doing this racist, crazy ass bullshit, got ignored so hard.
Young people should listen to Holocaust survivors, not crazy people that think melting Japanese children with radiation was a good thing.
