Imagine u duel mihawk for a great amount of time and the only scar u get from a fight is from pre yami yami no mi Blackbeard and not mihawk himself 
Shanks only visible damage is by a sea king where he protected luffy and from blackbeard where he literary stated he wasnt off guard

Shanks and Mihawk clashed equally and Shanks certainly got wounds from him.
By your logic you can also say that Shanks is a "fraud" because he couldn’t leave a scar on Mihawk.
If Mihawk was soo much weaker then I have a question for you… where are his scars?

There's no way you become WSS without going to wano or fighting top swordmen, without facing YCs (who are swordmen), without beating any high tier/top tier swordmen from Navy or Yonko side.

In the manga and novels, Mihawk is the only WS who never actually beat any powerful fighter 1v1 nor dominated 1.

Akainu and aokiji fought a death battle as well. while shanks always talks abt how pre yami Blackbeard stomped him. On the thread: imo Kaidou's recognition and WB Pirates praising Shanks CoC is a solid point in favor of Shanks, just like how being WSS is also a solid point in favor of Mihawk. My conclusion of Mihawk vs Shanks is that Oda wants to hype both of them by each hype moments or portrayal, but we won't get clear answer on who's stronger except when each prove their worth in an all-out fight in the same arc, be it against each other or against Luffy and Zoro. Which is unlikely to resolve or settle except by our own priorities/preference.
