I wouldnt say screwed, it is more like a taboo. People associate that with hedonism and flith when in reality high profile escorts are more clean and modest than your regular girls - my previous job had experience with such matters
Right now bcs prostitution is illegal it causes a rise in human traficking, sexual abuse and lack of medical and legal protection for the girls working in the field.
By legalising it not only do you combat Human Traficking pretty damn hard you also give sex workers much needed Healthcare - to prevent diseases - and legal care - to prevebt abuse - while also taxing it and increasing countries coffers which can further be invested in different things - like better schools so that girls dont need to depend on sex work to make a living
From that point of view legalising it makes a lot of sense does it not?
Honestly knowing how justified this taboo is just makes it communally legal seeing how the government doest take action against it or to avoid it.. even if by the jurisdiction or constitution deems it illegal.. which is ironic

don't get the high profile escort Analogy if you please could elaborate on that
but legalizing isn't a good solution since it would just give traffickers others reasons to trafficking under the LEGALIZATION pretext.. and this would sexualize the society even more.. hence more rapes more segregation between genders where one is now lowered to sex tools (i don't get the honor in that honestly) etc.. and its not guaranteed making it a legal business would change the illegal aspect of the industry whether that is trafficking, the mistreatment of women in the work.. subduing their will and forced consent etc
why not deal with the root of the problem rather than changing the shades of the leaf on the tree to make it seem alive and fine..
the fact is for instance even a democratic state like US does not consider prostitution a problem even if its illegalized its still practiced throughout US and has multi-billion dollar industries promoting it online so its attracting money in exchange for prostitution sometimes at the cost of people's freedom and some get underpayed... but the most logical problem leading to prostitution is lack of unemployment and trafficking which titles like por*hub have been allegedly practicing.. and the incompetence of the government when it come to helping the ones working in such an industry to come out and become the part of a more ethical business system
you see it comes full circle when you have capitalistic industries causing unemployment and stifling the lower class it forces the lowerclass to resort to such works which then is taken advantage of these industries to make more money out of it.
legalizing prostitution would just endorse more of this nonsense.. people can be forced to accept legal contracts
so that any allegations towards the subduer gets negated in the legal courts.. you see a capitalistic economy snd atmosphere would take advantage of such a historic mess up
it has communal harms... like i said it would make a sexualized society that would mistreat and see woman partaking in such industries as materialistic sex objects
even from a subjective point of view a woman is much more than a cum dumps and pleasure tools people make them to be..so the hedonism and libidinous is promoted without taking person's humanity or sentiments into consideration..
and the consequences of such work leads to distrust and inhumane treatment.. at the end and any relationship they get in would be in vain seeing how they aren't sexually loyal anymore..
so it would just deteriorate the society even more..
