井の中の吠えし蛙よ
O frog roaring/barking/bellowing/hollering in a well

世の広さを知るがいい
You ought to know the extent of the world! / Learn how vast the world is!

The frog in the well 井底之蛙 is a story attributed to Zhuāng Zǐ. The idea is that a frog in a well (or rather, a pit/trap, as the original Chinese seems to mean) can see only the sky above the well and therefore knows nothing of the world. The Japanese phrase is 井蛙 (せいあ/seia): frog in a well, someone with a narrow perspective.

Mihawk tried to explain to Zoro just how big the world is. We even got a visual aid! When Zoro charges at him despite being warned, Mihawk reminds him again that he’s in over his head.

But Zoro wants to achieve his dream today. Now. Here! He doesn’t care what Mihawk has to say, and the only thing that snaps him out of his charge is when Mihawk stops him cold.
And THAT’S the instant when Zoro begins to see the gap between him and his goal. Mihawk’s long-winded explanations didn’t do the trick, so he spoke with his kogatana instead.
Zoro continued to test Mihawk after this because he was so amazed that the gap between them could be so large. He spends the next four pages basically saying, "This can't be happening!"

Because Yoru is such a unique sword, Mihawk has a lot of weird grip styles. He uses the crossbar for extra leverage sometimes, and it’s almost like he swings it from the crossguard more than he swings it from the grip, if that makes sense. Because it’s such a unique sword, he must have come up with all of these moves on his own or learned them from Yoru’s previous owner. He also knows how to use its weight to his advantage.

Like putting his back hand on the crossguard so that he can bring it around faster like this:

But he hardly ever uses a normal grip. His hands are always positioned for maximum control and power, but it depends on the situation.

Watch Mihawk’s grip on Yoru as he completes his strike on Zoro. Also note that in the anime, he finishes with the blade side up, but in the manga the blade is pointed down.
If you try to recreate his strike keeping your hands like he did, you'll see it's impossible without switching your grip.
This could’ve all been avoided if Mihawk had used a baseball swing, crossing from one shoulder to the other.
But in order for the sword to end up lower than his waist AND pointed behind him, either he has 360° wrists or he had to switch his grip at some point. He literally only did this for dramatic flair.

Maybe Oda just drew the starting pose and the ending pose without thinking about it, or maybe he means to imply that Mihawk is showing off by switching his grip at the last second so that his finishing pose looks cooler. :goyea:
