Bobobo, Pop Team Epic and To Be Hero are high art.
(I'm kidding but I do love them! Brilliant shows imo)
I fucking love Fairy Tail tbh, especially for its female characters, music, art style and setting of all things! Silver is probably the best written father character I've seen too. Fairy Tail has given me the best emotional moments of any series too.
Kubo is a much better writer than people say too, he is extremely poetic and quite a thoughtful, reserved guy with a TON of style/flair and hidden depth. His bonus Hell chapter was unironically peak fiction and made me going from hating Bleach after what I thought was the 2nd worst final arc ever to loving it again, it was THAT good! Completely turned the lore up on its head and blew my mind, some of the best plot twists and fanservice I've seen!
I heard he doesn't want to continue the Hell arc/manga unless its on his own terms, his own vision, which I can respect if is true too! He supposedly had 10 years of content planned for Bleach still! Maybe specifically for the TYBW too!
I think Mashima is also a fantastic emotional/character writer, he is very underrated in that aspect imo. As much as I hated the final arc of Fairy Tail, I was extremely emotional in good ways as well for certain reasons. I think Erza was brilliantly written as a character, same with Lucy but they were terribly written for fights/as fighters.
Its easy to hate on Naruto but in hindsight I respect some of Kishis choices and style a lot too. The amount of respect he finally gave Gai (but ironically didn't for Rock Lee) in the end is what I've always dreamed of and could not ask for better too. The true fanboy, the one who fell in love with the Naruto series and anime around 20 years ago from now, was EXTREMELY happy at Gai vs Madara and his LONG awaited 8 gates moment. Which, Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 and the anime especially UNS4 made MUCH better too!
I genuinely think Gai is a misunderstood, underrated, brilliantly written, heroic, iconic and hilarious character. I love him.
I think Ranma 1/2 is a fantastic anime and manga, including the dub for it (despite the actual issues the dub had later on) and the manga actually had the most satisfactory ending I've ever seen for a series aside from Pushing Daises and Arcane for example. Its one of those rare times where I really loved the ending to something that wasn't a game or movie. Well a tv series specifically I guess.
Ranma 1/2 seems goofy and silly and it is, it most definitely is, but it has a TON of heart, its more subtle about it and it shows MUCH later on in the final arc of the manga especially, where I genuinely got emotional reading it too. It also inspired the Big 3 I think, I've heard it did, especially Naruto and maybe One Piece I imagine and there are some really fantastic, underrated, heartfelt aspects to it.
The FMA fans who keep spamming Shou Tucker and Nina jokes are not funny at all and just sour the fanbase/series for me too. They make it seem like its all FMA is known for or should be known for too. I've seen people trash on the FMA animes a bit too much for my liking, especially Brotherhood for some reason but I never read the manga to be fair too. I really loved the FMA animes, especially Brotherhood but I do agree they do fall off hard, both animes with their seperate storylines and thus disappointing final arcs and such.
I absolutely hate Dio entirely and cannot stand how much people simp for him, how much they glorify him etc. Him being so prevalent throughout Jojo drove me crazy LOL! Damn Araki keeping me hooked!
I didn't enjoy Jojolion/Part 8 at all except for the villains and most of them were wasted and one was not given a chance to really do anything or shine, well a neutral/anti-villain maybe character or something too as well. Jojolion has one of the worst endings I've seen too and final arcs.
I really love Part 4 of Jojo and it feels like a hot take/underrated somehow too. Theoretically I should love Part 8 then too but the change of art style, the lack of expression in characters and the same face art style and toned down ridiculousness/energy of later Jojo parts especially no 8 just soured me a lot too. I think Kira is the best villain in Jojo too and so unique and fascinating, complex, layered, tragic even somehow. But I really enjoyed seeing him get what he deserved too. Even more so with Diavolo too.
This place also keeps me from giving up on One Piece when I'm most pissed off with it too.
I think Cyberpunk Edgerunners is genuinely fantastic too, its very tragic, brutal and heartfelt and made me cry like a baby. Especially with the AMAZING music it has for it too on top of it. Its such fantastic character writing and tragedy imo and fits the Cyberpunk genre/setting perfectly. Calling Edgerunners great or speaking positively of it isnt a hot take but I genuinely think its one of the best series I've seen, which to me is a hot take as I'm sure there's a lot of people who would disagree on that lol. I've seen a lot of people hating on it outright too.
I think the Dota anime is awful, I've not seen the actual episodes of it but clips of it and such and I felt completely insulted as Dota fan, especially given how INSANELY, utterly superior the League of Legends anime Arcane is. The Arcane anime is EXACTLY what I have always wanted for YEARS with League and especially Jinx and Vi and could not be happier or ask for better! Dragon's Blood, The Dota anime apart from giving us Marci and featuring at least one of my favourite heroes, was just absolutely awful. imo from what I've seen on it. I refuse to watch the anime knowing about a certain couple major spoilers for it which put me off it permanently too, especially one of them.
I'm a sucker for simpler series like Bobobo, Pop Team Epic, To Be Hero, Nagatoro and Komi-San. Granted I've yet to see Komi-san or read it but I want to someday definitely. These series are a kind of guilty pleasure especially how they tend to be received in the anime/manga community and it feels like I should be ashamed for enjoying them but they bring me so much happiness/joy and laughter, such great escapism that I just tend to ignore it and watch them and enjoy them anyway lmao.
I absolutely hate Made in Abyss and anything similar. Even Goblin Slayer, Berserk, Redo of Healer and such but its for personal reasons I will not discuss, debate or elaborate on either. I just want to get my opinion out there even though I don't feel comfortable with discussing why I hate them.
I was meant to do only bullet points but I got carried away as usual lmao. Ghostly of the 100 essays! 1000 word posts! I'm much more of a casual fan as you can tell ofc and it shows in my post especially above.
