Who will be the Next Strawhat?

I don't want to be that person, but look at the first two pages of the chapter: Vegapunk states that the SHPs already have saved him and that a lot had happened. This means that during all this, Bonney had not had bonding/interacting-time with the SHP. Instead she stayed in the Kuma-memory-chamber the whole time. The only contact she had with a person was with Vegapunk after she came out of the room, no one else. :jay-he:

Please, consider that Oda now does the exact same thing he did in Wano with Yamato:
- Yamato had mostly interacted with non-SHPs.
- Here in Egghead Bonney mostly interacts with Vegapunk... a non-SHP ... . 😥

We have actively seen Bonney interact with several Strawhats on panel in Egghead. Bonney had more panel time with Luffy than Vegapunk before this chapter. You really using "offscreen" interactions?

Also just ignoring all the stuff before the invasion.

Not at all. Someone said this before too, and it's just nonsense. Bonney has mostly interacted with the strawhats this arc. Just because we saw a conversation between her and Vegapunk this chapter doesn't change that.

At this point I think there's only 1 of 2 possibilities going forward with Bonney's character.

A: she joins as the final Strawhat

B: she becomes a major recurring ally like Law

As of the current chapter, Bonney and Kuma have appeared more this arc than Luffy has. The only non-Strawhats who got focus comparable to what they're getting were Law in Dressrosa and Vivi in Alabasta (and Vivi's an honorary crewmate anyway).

Her dream is literally to reunite with her father. She doesn’t want to liberate the world she just wants to find Nika to tell her father about him. All of this goes back to Kuma.

I am looking at the reality, you’re just pushing her like people pushed Yamato without any substance last arc.
I think the issue here is that Kuma's effectively dead. He's operating on pure primal instinct to protect Bonney fron Saturn. Kuma's whole character seems to be built around the idea of him being a martyr. He's going to perform one last sacrifice to protect Bonney. I know One Piece has an issue with fakeout deaths, but they've explicitly gone out of their way this arc to say "Kuma is dead and there is no bringing him back."

Also I really don't think they'd be giving Kuma such a heartfelt sendoff if he was going to make it out of this arc alive.

I just want to say that I think her interactions with Vegapunk are more regular and pronounced than with the crew - this is my impression and does not mean she will stay with Vegapunk - it fells just odd to me (and familiar because of Wano). :zorothink:

Oh, and I have to add: I think, Oda will show us what was happening in that time skip in the near future and that Bonney will play a minor role in the story, since she was in her father's memory-room. It was off-screened, but I think we will get to see it soon.

That's objectively false, and why in the hell would she stay with Vegapunk and give up on being a pirate?

Nah her connection with the crew is way better than Carrots and Yamatos was. Even though she talks to Vegapunk, it’s clear that she’s been connected to the straw hats more

Maybe Vegapunk could work on Kuma and even bring him back to some degree. I do not know.

I do not know. She did show some fondness for Vegapunk this last chapter. Though Luffy seems to be the person she wanted to meet all those years (Nika).

I like you because you acknowledge points that help agendas you don't agree with. Most people here don't do that.
I like Bonney, I don’t think she will (nor should) join but I won’t delude myself into thinking she doesn’t have a solid connection to straw hats.

Luffy and her grew close it seems, she has a unique friendship with Sanji, Franky jumped down from safety to find her, and I wouldn’t be shocked if we get more throughout the arc.

Showing fondness for and being connected to isn’t the same. Let me explain using previous characters:
1. Yamato - Although introduced with Luffy, most of her time on Onigashima was with Momo and she was constantly being connected to Wano as a guardian

2. Carrot - Although she had an arc with the straw hats, she was a minor character in WCI but moreso than that when she was on Wano she was instantly relegated to the minks and more than that her plot was connected to the minks

Bonney currently her plot is connected to Luffy and Kuma she really doesn’t have much future connection to Punk anymore and her scene this chapter felt more like a child reconnecting with a relative

Imho, if Kuma dies, Bonney has no one and MUST join Luffy's crew because being relgated to Vegapunk makes little sense with her desire to see the world. Thats the only thing that would honestly make her happy, following Nika.

If Kuma lives, then she has options (both can join or they both just go off and do their own thing until the EoS)

This, it'll hinge on what Kuma's fate is ultimately, since her goal from the start was finding him. If he survives I don't think she'd have a reason to join the SHs as much as if he dies, and he tells her to live as she pleases or something. :zorothink:
