You can take it beyond that. All of the SH recruits were directly linked to the main villain both narratively and thematically. Zoro by far had the quickest requirement, but Luffy still came to the island with the goal of making Zoro join him. Zoro couldn't do that because of Axe Hand Morgan keeping him and his weapons hostage.

Carrot was a supporting character in WCI and even that was inflated cause Oda's editor at the time made him give Carrot that much attention. As soon that editor when away and Wano came around, Carrot swiftly fell into the background as a minor character and was completely separated from the main conflict and climax. That has never happened to a SH before.
It's almost like the "evidence" of Carrot joining is situational at best and requires to ignore both precedence of every other member AND actual information provided by Oda in the story, how odd

Exactly. Even Zoro was special since he was the First Mate, and Oda gave Nami & Robin terrible childhood; and those were back then when Oda still had plenty of times to do so. Carrot’s supposedly “main antagonists” turn out to be tertiary antagonist; both Perospero & Jack.

“b-b-but Carrot bonded with the crew!”

so did Conis, Camie, and other supporting characters.

I was just simplifying things so Carrot fans can easily comprehend things because currently logic doesn’t apply to them.

Latest Road to Laugh Tale pages make it seem less and less likely that Yamato will join
All of Yamato's concept art is drawn in the modern One Piece art style, indicating that she wasn't planned until Wano
This stands in sharp contrast to how Oda more or less had rough ideas of the crew planned out from the beginning

Yamato looking more and more like an arc-only character

Uncle Van

Oda himself said that aside from Jinbe, at least one more character could be joining. That and how the SHs was originally supposed to be complete preskip with 11 total.

Well then if he plans for there to be another Strawhat then it probably isn't Yamato considering that he didn't come up with her until Wano

Why is Yamato the exception? Oda didn't come up with Robin until a year before she was introduced and you don't see her in those early concepts do you? Doesn't your logic suggest no one else is joining period when Oda himself hinted otherwise?

I'm pretty sure the guy on the left is a very early prototype of Robin. He's a botanist and that fits in with Robin's whole flower motif

Here is a question that no one from the Carrot side has managed to answer: Carrot joining would require Oda to change his writing style just for her. All the SHs had similar patterns and criteria before joining(OP arcs for example also follow a similar formula), so what makes Carrot so special that she doesn't need the same stuff?

He changed his style with Robin, Franky, and Jembei. Robin joined of her own accord playing a minor role and was fleshed out later. He actively hid Franky joining by making sure most of the water seven cast seemed viable. Jimbei was held off for a very long time.

I know when Naito joined. He did not initiate Carrot traveling with the crew nor did he have carrot ease dropping to come along. She may have taken a back seat in Wano but she still saved Marco. Pedro was still Luffy's main motivation. The dawn is important to carrot and that has not happened yet. It appears Carrot may still have more to her story. One thing about Carrot is that she is still supporting Luffy in major yet subtle ways.

To summarize:
1. Yamato clearly wasn't conceptualized before Wano
2. Yamato has no role
3. Yamato has no dream
4. Yamato has no skills distinct from the rest of the crew
5. Yamato doesn't have a distinct design (As in she looks just like Nami)
6. Yamato's Devil Fruit doesn't follow the naming pattern
7. Yamato spent more time with Momo than with any of her supposed crewmates
8. Yamato doesn't really have any kind of meaningful bond with Luffy
9. Yamato is considered the guardian deity of Wano and Greenbull just called in a battleship

To clarify, the ONLY reason to think Yamato will join is that she said so
I'm gonna be honest, I think she's just a red herring :luuh:

No it doesn't. More likely he was reworked into post time skip Ussop with the pop greens if anything. There's literally nothing remotely similar between him and Robin other than the vague connection of her devil fruit's name, and we have an actual plant themed fighter on the crew.
Nah I can get the connection. Him being a botanist kinda implies he's a learned expert out looking the world for rare plants, which ties in well with Robin being a genius archeologist looking for the true history
