I usually never say that, but after last chapter I think she's basically a lock to join.

She has charisma, is an interesting personality, has a cool backstory (for sure) and most important of all - she has a huge dream that she wants to achieve, but where she needs help.

The resemblance to Nami doesn’t matter as much to Oda as it does to the rest of us, I believe. He’s older and visibly tired, so if he wants to add another crew mate, I don’t think it’s a stretch that he’d make her look like someone else he draws all the time just because it’s easier to do. Plus, Yamato’s hair/skin color haven’t been revealed yet, so the scheme will likely be different enough that nobody will confuse the two.

For your other point - I currently have Luffy > Jinbe > Zoro/Sanji > the rest in descending order, and Yamato is probably somewhere around Z/S or between them and Jinbe. By the end of the series, L/Z/S are gonna be the strongest guys in the crew and possibly the world, but that doesn’t matter right now. The Straw Hats could certainly use another wildly strong fighter for a total of five, with the rest of the crew providing plenty of support without having to match their powers. Again, I think the balance is something we as fans discuss all the time, but probably influences Oda’s writing significantly less than our thinking.

I don't think Yamato would be as powerful as ZSJ after this arc... I guess she'll be a mid tier, similar to what Franky was before the timeskip (the "borderline" between the weakest "YC" and the most powerful "veteran")...

Yeah we gotta see where she ends up after this arc. Its clear the entire crew will jump in power and play "catchup", kind of like how Jinbe was pretty much stronger than everyone until the timeskip.


Also, this chapter pretty much solidifies her potential as a crewmember. She specifically states she wants Luffy to take her out to sea.

Well given this latest chapter, the discussion is over. Yamato will definitely join the crew. She said it herself.

Yeah, after this chapter I don't feel yamato joining, like, at all. Luffy clearly doesn't like her much for starter. And the way she consider herself (himself?) and all the things related to Oden ? i don't feel it.

I don't think it's cut and dried yet. Yamato wants to- at least, according to that poor translation- go on the ship, which is not the same thing as joining the crew. We also know Caribou wants to do the same thing after Wano, and we've seen that sailing with the Strawhats does not make you a Strawhat.

That means she is 99% likely to go with the Strawhats after Wano. That can be
-as an official Strawhat by the end of Wano
-in order to build her further up to be a Strawhat in the future
-simply as an ally.

The only thing I'm certain about with regards to Yamato is that Oda wants us to be discussing her as a potential Strawhat.

If she is going to be a Strawhat she could really do with getting a facial scar or something distinctive like that. She is far too similar facially to Nami for my liking- I can tell them apart, but c'mon Oda, you can do better than slightly thicker eyebrows and lower eyelashes.

I think her strength is a sign that yeah. It's kind of like Robin in Alabasta. She "clashed" with Luffy in Alabasta, and then joined. Or Franky clashing with Luffy in Water 7.

When Oda is aware that the deeper we get, the stronger the crewmates, it's a sign.
