Yes it was shown clearly. You just choosed to ignored it.
Carrot's naivety toward adventure and the sea is in the center of her character arc. You can spot that with different narrative data throughout her story, let look at those data:
- The first time she expresses how she viewed a mission heading toward a
yonko territory :
> Wanda had to reprimand her
- The second time she was introduced. Thinking that she would just go on a pyjama party for 1 day with the strawhats bringing only one teeshirt and one snacks
> Pedro had to reprimand her
(note in those instance that Pedro and Wanda are using the same rethoric)
- The way she faces her ennemies (head on) but doesn't really think about it (much like Luffy in that instance)
- The way she interacts with the strawhat and Chopper, listening blindly to his orders even thou he doesn't know what to do (funny enough "Choniki" is the title of that chapter):
Again.. the way she attacks blindly her ennemy without even a notion of danger:
Interestingly enough, we can see that this "naivety" completely dissapears at the very moment where she is in perfect sync with her purpose and the memories of her master while letting the anger at the door:
But her naivety didn't disappeared and she keeps rushing toward the ennemy without a mear sence of danger (
note here that Luffy and Carrot are both showed in a similar position, in a similar direction and in a similar panel .. heading toward their ennemy and they will both fail):
Finally Perospero is the onewho will "give the truth" to Carrot: "You are too naive, return home":
------------
Again. Naivety is the core of Carrot's characterization and it's in the center of her character arc. This naivety will be again tested in the future. Only this time, Carrot won't be defeated.
Because the thing is: Naivety is not a weakness. It's a gift.
