To answer this, Oda can just randomly pull a new stronger move for Zoro's finisher if he really intends Zoro to kill Kaido.
New move just like Luffy suddenly used KKG to finish Doffy while he never used it in first round of G4, or Zoro suddenly pulled Asura against Kaku despite iirc no hint or foreshadowing, etc.

But Zoro isn't killing his new crewmate's daddy.
Yamato wants Kaido to get beaten, not to be killed.
